By the Way... I'd only expect goober to be familiar with some of these genras... tongue.gif

And before you yell at me..... I know alot of bands can fit into multiple catagories....that's why I posted the definitions of each provided by progarchives.com....

They are not my definitions.

I guess out of that list, I would choose "symphonic prog" because I'm familiar with Genesis and Yes music

I like bits from a few sub-genres - symphonic, electronic, heavy, crossover, neo... dunno which one to pick.. tongue.gif I'm tempted to go with symphonic though, as that includes my faves - Yes! biggrin.gif

But what is 'Zeuhl'? I can't see the definition for that one...

I probably listen to as much Prog as I do Metal and Jazz. And, it's hard to give the nod to just one category when I can appreciate most of 'em. I'll tell ya one thing though. There exists an abundance of great prog albums apart from just the big name acts. After I burned through the entire catalogs of Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull and Rush, I began searching through the past for other great albums. There were other bands which delivered a decent amount of consistency like King Crimson, Nektar, Gentle Giant and Kansas. Many awesome discs to be found with those guys. But, even more interesting were the bands that had merely but one awesome album and then either sank into obscurity, or continued on with lackluster titles. Check out these stellar outings: Gnidrolog - Lady Lake, Asgard - In The Realm of Asgard, Van Der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts, Greenslade - s/t 1973 to name just a few. Edited by naturalsciences101

yeah, i am - a little bit tongue.gif

seriously though dude, how on earth can i decide?

i'll choose symphonic prog, wait Italian syphonic prog. Actually make that electric prog. I mean psychedelic space rock... erm, krautrock's obviously the best. Make that the canterbury scene. Just kidding, I meant jazz-rock fusion or perhaps heavy prog. Prog folk? Is that better than progressive electronic, crossover prog, RIO/Avant-prog or zeuhl?

Oh lord... unsure.gif

Heavy Prog. But I think Tool belongs in that category or Prog Metal. Calling them experimental? Nope. Godspeed You Black Emperor is that.

ProgArchives has lost it's appeal. It was much better two years ago. They are commercializing.

As Mel Brookes so eloquently said:

"Badges! Badges! We don't need no stinkin' badges!!"

Insert Sub-Genres for badges.

Just my opinion smile.gif

Really no stinking badges. But instead, big tricked out name tags. tongue.gif
