circumstantial tree
I love Janis Joplin's music. She hails from Port Arthur, Texas. I read in a Janis Joplin book that "The Rose" was originally going to be about Janis Joplin specifically, but they then decided to have the movie represent a basic rock star with issues such as drugs. Sissy Spacek was considered for the Janis Joplin movie before they changed the concept. With that said, here's one of my faves and the one song to introduce me to her music on MTV's Closet Classics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja5chQMyNmg
