Going old-school for both of these... I need more hardcore punk and more rap. Any recommendations?

What kind of Hardcore Punk and Rap are you into already?

Bad Brains, Bad Religion, and Black Flag are some of the hardcore punk bands I'm into. (I'm really open to old-school punk, too... not hardcore only.)

If you like old school you surely must've heard some Dead Kennedys by now. If not, do yourself a favour, essential.

I've heard of them... but that's it. sad.gif I'll try and check them out sometime.

Get Husker Du's Zen Arcade. 'Nuff said.

That's one that I really, really, really want to get sometime.

That's one that I really, really, really want to get sometime.

I also recommend checking out the Minutemen.

The majority of their lyrics and their general attitude is more punk and DIY-based, and their earlier records are musically more punk-sounding, but their middle period records are more rock and funk-based...

They have a really cool, unique sound of their own.

Check out the debut full-length album The Punch Line and their best (IMO) EP Buzz or Howl Under the Influence of Heat.

Back in high school, my friend Patrick was really into Rush - and his favorite joke was, during Grand Designs to say to the speakers, "Alex! Alex stop, the solo is over! Alex!"

Don't know why I thought of that tonight.

What about Double Nickels on the Dime? (That's the reason that I've heard of the Minutemen.) Is it as good as the hype?

See I totally think it's as good as the hype...

But some people struggle with it because there's 43 songs and the whole idea of it being an insanely long album freaks some out..

I love it though, I would check it out but I'd maybe listen to those other two I mentioned earlier...just to get a grasp on their sound.

Double Nickels is definitely worth it, in fact I'd prolly say you could get it now.

But I dunno, I think I'd recommend listening to those other two first, just to get a good 'starter' sample, so to speak.

Today, I reached my 25,000th song scrobbled by last.fm. The song was "Cemetery Drive" by My Chemical Romance. It took about 13 months to hit 25,000... so that means I'm averaging 1,924 songs scrobbed a month. ohmy.gif

According to the site that I was using that archived milestones, here are the milestones it recorded, the artist, the song, and the date.

500th track: Green Day - "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" (June 23, 2009)

750th track: Green Day - "Stuck With Me" (June 27, 2009)

1000th track: Green Day - "See the Light" (July 2, 2009)

1500th track: Green Day - "The Static Age" (July 7, 2009) --> obviously, this was when I was in the middle of my supermassive Green Day kick laugh.gif

2500th track: Fall Out Boy - "Homesick at Space Camp" (July 26, 2009)

5000th track: Lil Wayne - "Talkin' About It" (September 10, 2009)

7500th track: Paramore - "Careful" (October 22, 2009)

10000th track: My Chemical Romance - "Honey, This Mirror Isn't Big Enough for the Two of Us" (December 3, 2009)

12500th track: Panic! At the Disco - "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" (January 7, 2010)

15000th track: Bad Brains - "I Luv I Jah" (Feb 10, 2010)

20000th track: blink-182 - "Anthem" (April 12, 2010)

25000th track: My Chemical Romance - "Cemetery Drive" (July 6, 2010)

My favorites (of the releases I have)

What Makes A Man Start Fires
Double Nickels on the Dime
The Punch Line
3 Way Tie

What Makes A Man Start Fires is totally underrated.

Haven't listened to 3-Way Tie yet...

But their Buzz or Howl Under the Influence of Heat EP is seriously excellent.

Definitely up to par with their full-length albums.
