The original cast has always been the consensus pick.

Not including that cast, I would go with the late 80s through early 90s era. (So I guess it's a tie between those choices on the list.)

Yes, it's gotten so bad now that we don't even say that we forgot to watch it. We just don't watch anymore. It is time to retire the franchise.

I loved the first cast. But SNL was very original back then. I really didn't watch it much through out the eighties. I was always doing something fun on Saturday night that didn't include watching T.V.. But I got married and went to dental school in the early nineties and SNL became my cheap entertainment. I thought that cast with sandler, m.myers, hartman, carvey, schneider, spade, and farley was the best. I voted for that cast, but it might be for sentimental reasons. It was definitely a good time for SNL.

Akroyd...

I voted for the original cast but the Harman years were funny at times. Though I have to admit that it's long past due to put that old dog to sleep.

Hartman...

I liked the Mid-80's Martin Short, Chris Guest, Harry Shearer era stuff.

NBC always has YouTube take down the SNL stuff. I wish you could go to NBC's site and cherry pick skits and make your own 'Best of' DVD, that would rule.

I voted original, but that's an over simplification. I'm pretty sure Chevy Chase was only on for the first season, and was then replaced by Bill Murray. That's my favorite cast: the second one with Akroyd, Belushi, Murray, Curtain, Newman, Morris, and Radner. First season was trying to work out the bugs, and everything after is a pale imitation.

I'd say late 80s, early 90s.

Although you didn't include them on the "Late 80s" list, the late 80s also had Hartman and Dana Carvey. And the writing was pretty darn good and featured a bunch of wonderful recurring characters.

The early 80s, despite the presence of greats like Murphy and Martin Short, had SUCH BAD WRITING that they're almost entirely unwatchable, in my opinion. There were good moments, but for the most part SNL sucked then. Things didn't improve until Lorne Michaels returned, hired a bunch of new talent, and turned things around again.

Any year with both Carvey and Hartman was very good. Miller, Myers, Farley, and the girls - Jan Hooks and Nora Dunn - were just gravy for the late 80s/early 90s era.

Early 90's cast for me. First cast would be 2nd.

Same for me, too. Though I have to agree with Rushian king ultimately and go with SCTV.

Bobby Bitman

Bob & Doug McKenzie

Johnny LaRue

Rockin' Mel Slirrup's Rock Pile

Count Floyd

Jackie Rogers Jr $100,000 Jackpot Wad
