Rocinante
This may have been covered before but... If you can think that far back (in some cases ), 1) What was the the very first song of theirs you ever heard, 2) When was it, 3) How old were you, and 4) Where were you at the time? Mine was "In the Mood" in 1975 when I was 12 years old. I heard it on my spankin' new "Canada Gold" LP in the basement of my parent's house in a little town in northern Ontario. Thus began a love affair... http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk108/rocinante_photos/gold.jpg
rushringleader
Tom Sawyer on Rush and Rio. I was at my house doing homework. I was 13 at the time. 2005ish maybe 2006 by then. My dad got it out from the library, I was curious what it was all about and put it into my CD player. My life has not been the same since. rushgoober
1) What was the the very first song of theirs you ever heard, Hard to remember for sure, but one of the songs of side one of Moving Pictures that they played on the radio constantly back then. 2) When was it, 1981 3) How old were you, and 12 4) Where were you at the time? At my best friend's house at the time - Robbie DeNoto - some Rush song from side one of MP came on the radio and it completely blew my mind... snowdog2112
QUOTE Tom Sawyer on Rush and Rio. I was at my house doing homework. I was 13 at the time. 2005ish maybe 2006 by then. My dad got it out from the library, I was curious what it was all about and put it into my CD player. My life has not been the same since. Ouch. I turned 40 a couple of months ago but this post makes me feel 80. For me, I remember hearing Rush on the radio and around my school in 1980/81 when they had a spike in popularity but they didn't really click for me until a few months after I bought GUP. I bought GUP around May/June of 1984 and within about four months I scraped enough money together to get the whole back catalog. They've easily been my favorite band ever since. Fat Organ
The first time I heard Rush 1976 when they played the live version of Working Man on the radio from ATWAS.... but it wasnt until a friend loaned me 2112 a couple months later that I got hooked. Janie
1) What was the the very first song of theirs you ever heard: Spirit of Radio 2) When was it: 1988 3) How old were you: 16 4) Where were you at the time: In my car. I was driving up past NorthTown mall on Division St. in Spokane, WA. I remember thinking that, that was one impressive "keyboard trick." I remember talking to my then boyfriend who said it was the guitar, not a keyboard and I was blown away. "Someone is playing that on a guitar?!" I was hooked from that point on. Side note: I actually had the 2112 8-track that I got as a hand-me-down from my Aunt when she was done listening to it. I remember having it but I was too little to actually get into the music I think. Anyway...

GeddyRulz
1) Tom Sawyer 2) It was probably the spring of '82 or '83 3) I think I was 15 years old; I'm 40 now. 4) I was watching MTV at my sister's friend's house. Soon I was appropriating my brother's copy of Moving Pictures, then buying my own copy, then buying a Rush t-shirt, and by the following Christmas I had their entire catalog. First concert ever was in 1984, on the Grace Under Pressure tour. The sound of the music and the attitude/virtuosity of the players came out of the television set and bit me on the ass. That moment gave me the bug; I still have it 25 years later. Bye-bye Go-Go's, hello real music. Edited June 9, 2008 by GeddyRulz
Sarge
Bastille Day from ATWAS 1977 14 years old Friends of mine at school had talked me into to going to see RUSH play at the Glasgow Apollo on their 1st UK tour so I thought I should maybe get to Know the songs....so I borrowed ATWAS and listened to it again & again in my bedroom. Show Don't Tell
Song: Closer To The Heart Year: 2004 Age: 10 Location: My dad's car -- we were listening to the radio (Q107) Funny story actually; I thought the voice belonged to a woman! But, hey, that was me "back then" -- I didn't know any better. I was listening to a lot of newer stuff. And probably like any kid, I wanted to take after my father. He liked and still loves classic rock music. He ALWAYS had (and still always does have) the classic rock radio station on, so I grew to like the style. I first fell in love with Led Zeppelin, and then found Rush to be more interesting. I've been hooked ever since!
IDSkinner
1) What was the the very first song of theirs you ever heard, Subdivisions 2) When was it, January, 1984 3) How old were you, 17 4) Where were you at the time? In Nebraska traveling from NW Iowa on the way to my first ski trip to Colorado. My older brother, who was at Iowa State, was going along and brought the Signals tape with him and I was hooked. We played it over and over and I was a fan. There was a thread a while back that asked if you started listening to Rush in 1979(I think), would you still be a fan? YES!!!! As I got older I found the older stuff to be amazing. Edited June 9, 2008 by IDSkinner
Mara
First off let me say that it was, of course, good old Tommy S. that got me into it. First heard it at a friend's birthday party, 1981. And let me add that it's quite odd to see Rush listed alongside Anne Murray and Paul Anka. At least Gordon Lightfoot isn't on that album.
