Just curious to hear some opinions on what remains a hotly debated topic....this may have already been discussed but I didn't see a poll for it.

My decision to create this poll is a result of an ongoing debate between me and a good friend of mine over which band is better.....my friend is a huge Who fan and thinks they are second only to the Beatles in greatness, but I find myself in favor of Zeppelin no matter how much he tries to convince me. Alas, I wish I could think of some good reasons, but it's been a long week of school schla03.gif

Oh yeah if you haven't noticed I'm a new member on this forum and still a relatively new Rush fanatic, but even so I am irrefutably obsessed and you have no idea how excited I am to find such a freakin' awesome site 1022.gif

Led Zeppelin for me. Zep made much better albums and are better musicians. I don't think there is a Zep album that is overrated. I can't say that about The Who. I have not had the pleasure to see either band live, but I'd give that to The Who based on official albums, bootlegs and film/video. Alas, it's not enough to over take the mighty Zep in my book.

Though the Who had better musicians; I just genuinely prefer listening to Zep

I respectively disagree about The Who being better musicians than Led Zeppelin. John Paul Jones is a great multi-instrumentalist, John Entwistle was a great bassist. Overall, Jimmy Page is a better guitarist than Pete Townsend and John Bonham could certainly hold his own against Keith Moon.

Agreed....and I personally think it's a toss-up between Plant and Daltrey....Plant may have been slightly the better singer but I think Roger was a better frontman.

Yes. Liking a particular singer is more subjective than liking a particular musician. For example, I'm not a Van Halen fan but I know Eddie Van Halen is a great guitar player. I may not like the songs, but I can't deny the level of musicianship. With singing I feel it's harder, but obviously not impossible, to distinguish what is considered great singing. So much has to with the particular voice. Geddy Lee for instance, some people can't get past his voice to realise he's actually a pretty good singer.

The Who trump Led Zeppelin by a mile. I feel more emotionally connected to The Who. They just connect way more with their audience. I just think they are way more dedicated to the music than Zeppelin ever was. smilies-8579.png smile.gif

I still like Zeppelin, though. smile.gif

Well now that the discussion has changed a bit I guess my initial post was a tad misleading...

Jimmy Page is my favorite guitar arranger (if that makes any sense) nobody can make a bazillion guitar dubs sound as good as him, and his sloppy (I prefer "careless") style is essential to the Zep experience

I like high tenor/alto singers like Robbie so he gets my vote; even if he is less consistant than Daltrey

But Moon really is amazing, Bonham is quite distinctive but Moon wrote/improv'd lines around vocal melodies; he's easily one of my favorite drummers to listen to

and while JPJ is definitely an excellent multi-instrumentalist, Entwistle could play circles around him, and likely even play circles around Page as well.

So thats two for two. Regardless, all 8 musicians are/were truly masters at what they do.
