All The World's Indeed A Stage
I have always wondered why The Camera Eye is consistently voted by fans as the one song that they want RUSH to play live. Don't get me wrong, it is a fantastic song and the lyrics are great. But I don't think it is nearly as good of a song as fans make it out to be. In fact, in my opinion it is the weakest song off MP. That being said, i am not "bashing" this song, i just want to know why it has swept away the hearts of so many RUSH fans??? Can anyone enlighten me? circumstantial tree
To me it's a great song to "zone out" with. I also think it's the best song on MP. I like the visuals that come to mind when I hear it. As far as it being played live, I would like that but don't necessarily have to hear it. I think it's one of those songs that if played night after night would be quite cumbersome. The song doesn't jam but rather meanders along. gleamingalloyaircar81
I dont know what the big deal with it is either. Its nowhere near what fans make it out to be. It is probably the weakest song from PEW an MP. Its still a good song but I dont want them to play it live.
Wilderness_of_Mirrors
i love The Camera Eye, i think it is one of the best pieces of music ever written. the lyrics are great, and the music and lyrics fit together beautifully. if you want to hear a real rant about this, just talk to TheRocinanteKid. Heres the problem - you may find it to be the weakest song on two of the greatest rock albums ever made, that still leaves it as good to many But that aside, I believe the last time they played it live was Signals tour, some 26 years ago. The main reason they havent played it, according to Geddy, is not that we dont like it, but they dont particularly want to play it, and take that much time in the setlist with something they dont like that much... keakag
If you really listen to Camera Eye, it's really cool how it unfolds. Musically, all three parts are really cool. But it is way to long for to play live. The have played an abbreviated version in the past

daneel2112
TCE is one opf the best Rush song, and it shows not only how good they are as musicians but as writers. It is the last "epic" song they have done, and for me as a old fan, something I miss in the new music over the last twenty years. It is the way the song is shaped and built over the 10 minutes is something they could never repeat on stage or in the studio again, which is a shame. In the end we have the song on MP, which is the highlight of the album.
TheRocinanteKid
Because to put it simply it's the greatest song of all time. Normally I would've posted the beating a dead horse graphic on this thread but I never get tired of talking about T.C.E. Seriously, with the exception of Hemispheres nothing even comes close to that tune.

Ok, I usually try to hold back from responding on the absolute praise/worship for TCE, however I shuddered when I read your assertion that it's "The greatest song of all time..." I must have a screw loose somewhere, because I always skip that tune when listening to MP. It's so long, and repetitive, and very slow. Now, I do think it's a decent song, however, I do not think it deserves the absolute praise that many fans tend to throw upon it. Personally, I enjoy Face Up, Where's my Thing, Limbo and even, *gasp*, Tai Shan much more than The Camera Eye. Just my two cents.

OriginalFan
QUOTE (circumstantial tree @ Mar 23 2008, 08:08 AM) The song doesn't jam but rather meanders along. I think this tune, as great as it is to "zone out" to, would be a show-killer. It's artistic; the music and lyrics are great, but it lacks momentum. IMO, concerts do better with driving music propelling the evening forward and keeping the energy level high. Kis

I know we can't all feel the same way about certain songs. For me T.C.E. is the greatest song of all time, lots of people here love it I guess there's only a few who worship it as much as me. I find it much more emotional than any love song I've ever heard. It blows my mind each and every time I hear it, if it's the same for you with whatever other song I have nothing against you. All The World's Indeed A Stage
Well, im glad it could make you laugh. But I am entitled to my opinion. Like i said, i still like that song but i can't figure out why people like it so freaking much. I just got done listening to it right now and I am blown away by it's methodical nature and i also think it is extraordinarily repetitive for a RUSH tune. But yeah, like i said in another thread on this forum "One Man's Trash Is Another Man's Treasure."
