Lerxster
Another tribe... another brother Torn between his lover and the gun Another god... another mother Weeps to justify the damage done I wonder through the lies and dirt I wonder, will the meek inherit all the earth? As truth collides with propaganda Just another victim on the run The world outside, all fluff and candour Seeks to justify the damage done No wonder, so much pain and hurt I wonder, will the meek inherit all the earth? I think there may be... a war in heaven Paradise beneath the smoking gun As every saint and small town saviour Race to justify their chosen one I wonder, as our world collides I want to reach out there across the great divide
eguy
QUOTE (Fridge @ Oct 13 2008, 01:22 AM) QUOTE (eguy @ Oct 4 2008, 08:33 PM) Thaney "Mak' yer bed fu' broad, dear Thaney Mak' yer bed fu' broad and wide There will lie a southern suitor And you shall be his bonnie bride" "Faither dear, my bed is narrow Narrow so it will remain Never will I wed a stranger I would raither lie my lane" "Then I will call you no more daughter I will call you no more mine 'Til the day you die you'll wander Wander oot among the swine" Thaney fae the ha' was banished Banished oot in tae the night By and by there came a lady Busked in linens lily-white Thaney beckoned tae the lady Through the mirk she couldnae tell That it was a fair-faced laddie Come loomin like the earl o' hell "Tak yer hands fae aff my shoulders Tak yer hands fae aff my wame" "I will tak' the one thing, lady I never can return again" He has left her lyin' lowin' Lowin' there among the swine Thaney saw her belly growin' Growin' wi' the rue and thyme Word has gone untae the castle Word has gone untae the ha' "Thaney has lain wrang wi' a stranger She has let her snood doon fa'" "Wae be tae the wanton Thaney She has hattered at my heart Take her tae the highest mountain Tie her fast intae a cart" They have shackled Thaney's body Wi' her belly rowin' fu Every man wi' stone stood ready For to break her back in two But wonders on the bonnie lady Wonders on the Berwick Law Tho' the stanes rained doon wi' fury Not a one on her did fa' Word has gone untae the castle Word has gone through a' the land "Thaney rose up like the morning She stepped softly on the strand" "Wae be to the wanton Thaney Curses on her blithesome head Let it be by Loth here commanded I will live to see her dead Without sail or row or rudder It's you shall toss the wild, wild faem Let the ocean's dogs devour ye Never more you'll rise again" But wonders on the bonnie lady Wonders on the silver spray Cradled by five thousand fishes It's she has reached the Isle o' May Through the turning tide they tumbled Through the rattlin', rollin' storm Safe at Culross Kirk she has landed There she has her baby born "I will make my bed fu' narrow And in it I will lie my lane And my bonnie boy there beside me Nothing more to rue again" Malinky This is about the tale of St Thaney, the daughter of King Lot of Goloddin (Of King Arthur et al fame). Congrats on this mate, I never thought someone from across the pond would have unearthed this little gem..... Thanks Fridge I originally meant to post the lyrics to Three Ravens, but couldn't find it on the web and didn't want to go looking for the CD jewel case. We first discovered Malinky at the Mull of Kintyre Musical Festival, a number of years back. My wife and I absolutely adore Karine Polwart, and have been following her solo career since she split with the band. Funny thing is, a couple of years before that mokfest, we were staying near Tobermory, on the Isle of Mull, and one night, driving back to our B&B after a great meal and awesome sunset, we heard something intriguing on the radio, but all I thought I heard the DJ say afterwards was "highwire". I did a search when we got home and found "Highwired" by MacAlias. If you don't have it, I'd recommend getting it. But it wasn't until 2-3 years ago that it occurred to me that one of the voices was awfully familiar. I checked the CD and sure enough, 1/2 of MacAlias was Karine. The CD is worth it for John C. Clark alone. Maybe I'll post those lyrics sometime. Enjoy your time home off the rig.
eguy
"Fire at Midnight" I believe in fires at midnight --- When the dogs have all been fed. A golden toddy on the mantle --- A broken gun beneath the bed. Silken mist outside the window. Frogs and newts slip in the dark --- Too much hurry ruins the body. Ill sit easy ... fan the spark Kindled by the dying embers of another working day. Go upstairs ... take off your makeup --- Fold your clothes neatly away. Me, Ill sit and write this love song As I all too seldom do --- Build a little fire this midnight. Its good to be back home with you.

Fridge
LES MORTS DANSANT Cannons roared in the valley they thundered While the guns lit up the night Then it rained and both sides wondered Who is wrong and who is right On the wire like a ragged old scarecrow Bloody hands and broken back When they fire see him pirouette solo Jump in time to the rat a tat What a night though it's one of seven What night for the dancing dead What a night to be called to heaven What a picture to fill your head By the wall in a silouette standing Through a flash of sudden light Cigarette from his mouth just hanging Paper square to his heart pinned tight Gather round reluctant marksmen One of them to take his life With a smile he gives them pardon Leaves the dark and takes the light What a night though it's one of seven What night for the dancing dead What a night to be called to heaven What a picture to fill your head They dispatch their precious cargo Knock him back right off his feet And they pray may no one follow Better still to face the beast When the field has become a garden And the wall has stood the test Children play and the dogs run barking Who would think or who would guess What a night though it's one of seven What night for the dancing dead What a night to be called to heaven What a picture to fill your head
PhilCastro
I've lost all the time that I have in this world I spent it unwisely. Unwisely you see And I can't get it back And I can't move forward I'm broken and I'm empty It's over for me If I could undo all the wrongs that I've caused Fall to my knees pray for swiftness and just For I'm just a fool A fool driven to dust And the world ain't gonna change for me So give me one more chance to prove these problems and frustrations aren't just manifest in memories we're destined to repeat A second chance to prove I know right from wrong I swear I'll do things different but can't promise to be strong [Chorus:] So come on all you losers, you bastards and cheats Vagrants and barflies down on the streets Follow this path to salvation vindication awaits We're marching on East Broadway streets tonight If you can look into this old face and try to see the young man I swear I once was pretty, not the monster you now see But I squandered all my chances Lost my faith and took for granted This life and precious one chance the whirlwind I'll reap If I could undo all the wrongs that I've caused Fall to my knees pray for swiftness and just For I'm just a fool A fool driven to dust And the world ain't gonna change for me

PhilCastro
The Spicy McHaggis Jig I'll tell you a story, believe me, it's true. A tale you best hope never happens to you. Old Spicy McHaggis, how he met his fate. You I can save, but for him it's too late. Spicy was big, burly and strong. His pipes were gigantic, and so was his schlong! From city to city, running around, always looking for chicks over four hundred pounds One night at the pub, a girl caught his eye, big as a house, just the right size. the broad was enormous, stacked to the hilt, Spicy soon noticed a bulge in his kilt. The piper delivered his best pick-up line, thought to himself, this beast is all mine The portly young lady could stand for no more, grabbed his cojones and went for the door. They got to her house and dimmed all the lights. Spicy was in for one hell of a night. He said that he loved her, he'd always be true. But Mr. McHaggis, I've only just met you By now he saw double through his drunken eyes, neither had looks or appropriate size. He came to his senses, thought to himself; At this time at night, I won't find nothing else He took off his shirt, She lifted her skirt, They pulled out his unit and started to play, she asked for a glove, he gave her a shove, had baby McHaggis nine months to-the-day. Spicy, Spicy, Spicy, Spicy, Spicy, Spicy, Spicy, Spicy One night at the pub, a girl caught his eye, big as a house, just the right size. the broad was enormous, stacked to the hilt, Spicy soon noticed a bulge in his kilt. The piper delivered his best pick-up line, thought to himself, this beast is all mine The portly young lady could stand for no more, grabbed his cojones and went for the door. Three packs a day he'll smoke 'til he dies, Spicy McHaggis, One hell of a guy! Edited October 23, 2008 by PhilCastro

eguy
Change the Locks I changed the lock on my front door So you can't see me anymore And you can't come inside my house And you can't lie down on my couch I changed the lock on my front door I changed the number on my phone So you can't call me up at home And you can't say those things to me That make me fall down on my knees I changed the number on my phone Yes I changed the kind of car I drive So you can't see me when I go by And you can't chase me up the street And you can't knock me off of my feet I changed the kind of car I drive I changed the kind of clothes I wear So you can't find me anywhere You can't spot me in a crowd And you can't call my name out loud I changed the kind of clothes I wear I changed the tracks underneath the train So you can't find me ever again And you can't trace my path And you can't hear me laugh And honey, I'm laughing all the time! I changed the name of this town So you can't follow me down And you can't touch me like before And you can't make me want you more I changed the name of this town I changed the lock on my front door I changed the number on my phone I changed the kind of car I drive I changed the kind of clothes I wear I changed the tracks underneath the train I changed the name of this town I changed the name of this town I changed the name of this town

Lerxster
You and I, we are strangers by one chromosome Slave to the hormone, body and soul In a struggle to be happy and free Swimming in a primitive sea You and I, we must dive below the surface A world of red neon, and ultramarine Shining bridges on the ocean floor Reaching to the alien shore For you and me - Sex is not a competition For you and me - Sex is not a job description For you and me - We agree You and I, we are pressed into these solitudes Color and culture, language and race Just variations on a theme Islands in a much larger stream For you and me - Race is not a competition For you and me - Race is not a definition For you and me - We agree Reaching for the alien shore You and I, we reject these narrow attitudes We add to each other, like a coral reef Building bridges on the ocean floor Reaching for the alien shore For you and me - We hold these truths to be self-evident For you and me - We'd elect each other president For you and me - We might agree But that's just us Reaching for the alien shore Damn I love Counterparts!!! Lerxster
I need an easy friend. I do, with an ear to lend. I do think you fit this shoe. I do, won't you have a clue. I'll take advantage while You hang me out to dry. But I can't see you every night, free. I do. I'm standing in your line. I do hope you have the time. I do pick a number too. I do keep a date with you. I need an easy friend. I do, with an ear to lend. I do think you fit this shoe. I do, won't you have a clue. I'll take advantage while. You hang me out to dry. Lerxster
I awoke this morning Love laid me down by the river Drifting I turned on up stream Bound for my forgiver In the giving of my eyes to see your face Sound did silence me Leaving no trace I beg to leave, to hear your wonderous stories Beg to hear your wonderous stories 'LA AHA' He spoke of lands not far Nor lands they were in his mind Of fusion captured high Where reason captured his time In no time at all he took me to the gate In haste I quickly Checked the time If I was late I had to leave, to hear your wonderous stories Had to hear your wonderous stories 'LA AHA, LA AHA' Hearing Hearing hearing your wonderous stories Hearing your wonderous stories It is no lie I see deeply into the future Imagine everything You're close And were you there To stand so cautiously at first And then so high As he spoke my spirit climbed into the sky I bid it to return To hear your wonderous stories Return to hear your wonderous stories Return to hear your wonderous stories LA AH LA AH AH AH Hearing Hearing Hearing Hearing Hearing
