Distant Early Limelight
I agree whole-heartedly with Sword and Armour... Too many to choose from! But, personally, Natural Science's solo has always been a favourite...
Show Don't Tell
QUOTE (Sword and Armor @ Oct 14 2007, 07:36 AM) For my shows there were too many to pick: Limelight Digtal Man Freewill Natural Science Between the Wheels Everything from S&A Hell, He doesn't have a bad solo! My faves are: -Limelight (live, though. IMO, he wasn't using a powerful enough guitar when they recorded it at Le Studio.) -Between The Wheels -Open Secrets -La Villa Strangiato -Marathon -The Big Money -The Larger Bowl (!!!) -The Main Monkey Business -Uhh, all the rest from S&A, too. -Natural Science -Grand Designs (!!!) [panting] too...many...great...SOLOS! Alright I know I left out more than 5 great solos in that list... I'll just agree with that extremely knowledgeable post I quoted, and say, "Hell, He doesn't have a bad solo!"

ReRushed
Everything off of Permanent Waves, which, to my ears, is Alex's crowning achievement.
Deadwing
I think my favorite solo is a tie between Jacob's Ladder, La Villa Strangiato and Limelight, probably with Limelight coming out on top. It's buttery smooth perfection. The solo for YYZ and Red Barchetta are also top notch. So hard to choose!
Sword and Armor
Tom Sawyer has one Hell of a solo.......it's just a bit overshadowed by some great drum work
Chronicle2112
If no one else is going to say it... Working Man. You can't beat 4+ minutes straight of unhinged guitar noise.

Yes, as well as A Farewell To Kings and Hemispheres. There are some amazing solos in those albums! Also everything off of Snakes and Arrows. I think that Alex is in some of his best form on the new album!
Deadwing
QUOTE (Ya_Big_Tree @ Oct 14 2007, 01:46 PM) Also everything off of Snakes and Arrows. I think that Alex is in some of his best form on the new album! This I definitely have to agree with. I only really like about 50% of Snakes And Arrows, but Alex plays his BALLS off on this album. Show Don't Tell
QUOTE (Pagon @ Oct 14 2007, 06:57 PM) Any solo off of Power Windows. Brilliant playing by Alex even though it had lots keyboard parts in it. Power Windows!!! What an album! I love Alex's excessive use of the tremolo and such. The solo on The Big Money is quieter at the start, but builds up to a powerful ending! Grand Designs, I just get shivers up my spine every time I hear that solo -- amazing! And how it goes back into the song with Neil drumming; awesome!! Manhattan Project doesn't really have a solo, but a great strings solo, nonetheless. Marathon -- oh, you have to hear it live, too, because this one blows your mind! I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but I absolutely LOVE the expressions on Alex's face when soloing in Marathon on the A Show Of Hands video! The solo in Territories is short, but is great for leading into the "They shoot without shame" part. Middletown Dreams has a great solo, no doubt, but I would like to hear maybe some quieter synths in the background, just to give it more feeling. It kind of sounds hollow to me. I love the solo in Emotion Detector. It has great texture, and again with the tremolo! Love it! The Mystic Rhythms solo is very beautiful, despite it being roughly four notes repeated! ---------------- Long live Power Windows!
