Rank the heaviness!

1 = heaviest album

18 = least heavy album (or 19 if you're including Feedback, or higher if you're including live albums; you get the idea.)

Here's mine:

1: 2112

2: Caress of Steel

3: Vapor Trails

4: Rush

5: Fly by Night

6: Counterparts

7: Permanent Waves

8: Test for Echo

9: A Farewell to Kings

10: Hemispheres

11: Snakes and Arrows

12: Roll the Bones

13: Moving Pictures

14: Presto

15: Power Windows

16: Hold Your Fire

17: Grace Under Pressure

18: Signals

Now you do yours! biggrin.gif

And remember! dazed025.gif "Heavy" is not a synonym for "good."

I'm looking forward to discussing this with people and seeing how my list changes when I've had more time to think about it.

I decided to include Feedback in my list. I also think that 2112 is the heaviest Rush album with Vapor Trails coming in as 2nd. I think Hold Your Fire is the most 80's album they have made, that is to say that the album is very New Wave sounding and therefore not heavy at all.

New wave and heavy are not mutually exclusive. But in this case, I do agree with you. Rush's new wave period of Signals - Hold Your Fire are certainly their four least heavy albums, no question about it.

Yeah, I was going to say Hold Your Fire should be in last.

I would participate in this thread, but then I'd have to put VT near the top, and it doesn't belong at the top of any list IMHO. no.gif

But it's so good though.

So many people's different take on what the term "heavy" means to them. smile.gif Interesting to see the different perspectives.

I'd also have to go with Vapor Trails as most heavy. That album is pretty intense, with Counterparts, Test For Echo and Snakes and Arrows following, though I'm not sure in which order.

I think Hold Your Fire is definitely the least heavy of them all, with Roll The Bones and Presto not far behind.

Something like that...strange to see four of my favorite albums at the bottom of a list.

I know what you mean, but the first song that everyone thinks of when they hear Caress of Steel is Bastille Day (Well most people anyway).

Thank you for actually participating. Christine as well.

On the little conversation we've all had on this, and the time I've had to reflect, I think the only thing I really see wrong with my list as posted is that I put Roll the Bones too high.

And in response to the original query:

1. VT

2. T4E

3. AFT

4. 2112

5. FBN

6. MP

7. S&A

8. CoS

9. PW

10. 2.gif

11. Hemispheres

12. Counterparts

13. GUP

14. Signals

15. Presto

16. RTB

17. PoW

18. HYF

Live doesn't really count for me, as they seem much heavier live, which is as it should be.
