One Little Victory!

I had a Neuro appointment today, my Dr is finally taking me off of one of the drugs I take that I HATE! I told him that if he didn't switch me, I was just going to quit. (we've been fighting about this drug for years) The drug I've hated for years and finally was taken off of is Lamictal. I am currently taking Lamictal and Keppra and hate them both. He gave me a new script for the drug I like and a plan to slowly step down my dosage of Lamictal and titrate up to an effective dose of Dilantin. Dilantin worked well for me before and I was switched to Lamictal by an ER Dr, not a neurologist. Dilantin will be my main drug and my Keppra dosage will eventually be cut in half depending on how well I do on Dilantin. I still have a few more tests for possible surgery and and have appointments for them next week. My goal is to get my seizures under control, get off of disability and drive my ass back and forth to a job every day!!!

No seizures today BTW! 653.gif

I had an epileptic seizure in junior high. I was minding my own business reading, when I started feeling funny. The next thing I knew, the room was spinning around and I was screaming. Then I passed out. When I woke up, I had twin bumps on my forehead. My mom was there, and took me to the hospital. Spent some time there. Shortly thereafter, got on Dilantin and some other drug (can't remember which one) to help control the little spells (petit mal) seizures that followed. A few years after that, finally got off all the meds when the doctor decided that I'd "outgrown" epilepsy.

I'm glad to hear you've "outgrown" Epilepsy, my Dr's told me the same thing about 10 years ago. I've given up listening to them say, "this was probably just a one time thing and you'll probably never have another one" a long time ago. My seizures have grown progressively worse. There aren't many Epilepsy meds they haven't thrown at me to see if one sticks to the wall. I recently managed to talk my Dr into putting me back on Dilantin and take me off of Lamictal. For years, my seizures we're well controlled, I worked and I drove. I was out somewhere, had a seizure, and an ambulance was called. The ER Dr put me on Lamictal and it's been downhill ever since. I'm hoping Dilantin can put me back to a state of mind where my seizures were better controlled and my memory wasn't as bad as it is now. I'm on disability but I'd rather be able to drive to a job every day.

No seizures today!!! I've been trying to get my life on some kind of "normal" track. I'm a neat freak, I hate clutter, it's as if my life has become one big cluster-f**k of clutter rather than any kind of "normal" daily routine. I can't stand being disorganized and not keeping a normal schedule. Not working and being on disability really takes away from keeping a "normal" daily schedule and or routine. I would SO much rather be driving to a job everyday. I can be rude at times when people complain to me about their life, their job, or their car, at least they have one to complain about. Try living life from my view of things for a while. When I first stopped working when I was put on disability, I didn't really even care what the date is, what day of the week it is, and many times, what month it is. I think keeping this "daily journal" of sorts here @ TRF has helped me keep a better record of my seizure frequency.

None today! cheer.gif

I've been having blurry vision problems lately and I think it's been part of my headache trouble. I made an appointment to have my eyes checked to see if I'm a candidate for laser surgery. I'd rather have surgery than have to keep track of a pair of glasses. I'd lose my head if it wasn't attached to my shoulders.

( At least I think that's where it still is... unsure.gif )

November is epilepsy awareness month. I might have a panel with some doctors on suicide and epilepsy (since epilepsy is one of the leading factors of suicide in the world; sometimes the leading factor), yet little is known about it. Anyhow, just a head's up.

Hope you're feeling better, Drum. Just take it easy and get plenty of rest.

I am aware November is Epilepsy Awareness month and somehow, just somehow, my birthday just happens to be right smack in the middle of it on November 16th! I've had stupid thoughts about my life and my Epilepsy but with the support I get through my family and friends, I'm glad to say I can leave it as just that, stupid thoughts, and know that something stupid like that isn't going to make things easier for anyone. I think one of the best things to happen in my life right now has been to get back out west where the weather is warmer and drier than where I had been living in NW Pennsylvania, I hate cold weather and snow and back east was smack in the middle of probably what can be some of the coldest, snowiest, winters and hot, humid summers in the country. The heat I can deal with one way or the other, find shade, stay in an air conditioned area but, when it comes to humidity, I just don't deal with it well at all. My appetite is worse in muggy weather as well and out here in the drier desert climate with plenty of casino buffet's around in the warm, dry weather, I am eating better. My appetite agrees with the warmer, drier climate better and I do sleep easier.
