Unfortunately, Rush is playing in NYC the same night as the Melvins. Thankfully, the Melvins are doing 2 shows and I got a ticket to the second one. First time in probably 10 years that I'm missing a NYC area Melvins show.

I'm hoping to make it to the nashville gig on july 4, I've only seen them once

my dad saw them in their prime with gwar in 91 or 92, also saw em with the obsessed in 94 and another time with L7

I saw them open for Primus in 1993. Houdini tour. Didn't really get it at the time though. Fast forward to the early 00s seeing them with Tomahawk and other Ipecac/Patton projects and they completely blew me away. Easily a priority for me these days. It takes something on the level of potentially Rush's final tour to get me to miss a show. Sooooo thankful that they are doing 2 in NYC...otherwise I'd be thoroughly conflicted...and that's not even close to being an exaggeration!!

When did you catch them??

I saw them on their 30th anniversary tour in 2013, it was f***ing insane. they had 2 drummers!

I caught buzzo's solo tour last year, just him and an acoustic guitar. he told a funny story about how mike patton took a shit on his own audience because they booed the melvins. I was also lucky enough to yell BUZZO at him before the gig and he waved at me. I would've tried talking to him but I was way too out of it to talk to a sober sharp guy like buzz

Nice. The King Buzzo shows were a treat because they never happen. The Melvins is basically him (not to discount Dale for even a second), so in theory he's already got a solo outlet,

The changing lineups definitely keeps things interesting. Needless to say, I've seen a bunch. That second drummer you saw, Coady Willis, is probably my favorite drummer today. He just kills it. When he came into the Melvins with Jared (the bassist...both of whom have a band called Big Business), it added such an amazing dimension to the sound. Awesome mirror effect too with Coady being lefty and Dale righty.

Speaking of Big Business...somehow it completely passed me by that they will be in NYC on Thursday. Looks like Testament is not my next show :dweez:

Yep...twice. I've got an awesome story about sneaking into the Philly one, but too long to post here. It'll have to wait for another time.

Thinking of seeing Faith No More at MSG on August 5th. I like them a lot but I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore fan. Anyone care to chime as to whether I should go or not regardless?

Well that settles it...I was leaning towards going anyway cause who knows when they'll ever play live in the NYC area again.

Getting my tickets, now!

Edit: Scored Row 105! It was either that or Row 212 which had a shitty view (the right side stage.) Could've definitely waited for when it goes on public sale tomorrow, but I might've be stuck with more of Ticketbastard's banal seating choices. Tentatively thinking of seeing Mastodon on the 19th. Will make a decision on that in the next week or two.

just saw miranda lambert it was good. but her opening band, justin moore, has the sickest country music guitarist i've heard in a long time: ROGER COLEMAN. he is my fav guitarist at the moment...couldn't stop watching this guy he really got me fired up! check him out..."bait a hook" is a great live song

i was bored so i drove 1.5 hours and saw Miranda Lambert (again) at a casino in CT and scored a PIT seat being patient at the box office. Epic evening by daveyt standards. I hung out on the fckn LPF subwoofers. I was really digging this show and I'm liking Miranda more and more especially as I observe up close. She's an interesting performer: I noticed that she really has the blues in her. and country. What I like about her is that she comes across as a very honest performer with a few good tunes and she's fun.

I never heard anything about her up until just a few weeks ago (i don't watch pop culture stuff).

SPOILER

I am such an idiot:

I thought they brought up some old dude in a wheelchair and let him play guitar as a PR stunt but later I learned it was Leslie West from Mountain and he wailed on Mississippi Queen. are you ******* kidding me????? I didn't play close attention at all. What a tool.

Anyway after doing some research on Miranda'a music I'm mad for not prepping more before the show because hearing the words makes all the difference.

I like Automatic & White Liar the most. Of course I bought way too much merchandise.

Yeah, Leslie West, even in a wheelchair, would be worth paying attention to. We hear Miranda a lot in our house, my daughter likes her and we listen to pretty much everything. Her husband is Blake Shelton; he often jokes that he behaves because all her songs are about taking out guys that do her wrong :) Sounds like it was interesting to see her in a casino!
