TacRedline
I am waaay out of practice So I'm just looking for suggestions of easier bass songs. Songs that are easier but also have a fast part THAT YOU CAN CHEAT ON will work too (those dam fills are so hard! ) I have no problem with time changes/odd times (Jacobs Ladder FTW ) How Easy? I can play Tom Sawyer but my hands cramp on the repeating fast part... Thanks! Edited April 11, 2007 by TacRedline
antifreeze
Freewill. It sounds hard, but it's actually easy. The solo section might be tough, but if you practice, you'll be able to play it.It's also really fun,you feel like you've accomplished something. (i can never find the root notes ) Edited April 11, 2007 by TacRedline
antifreeze
Well it's Rush, almost every song is a challenge. There are actually four different fills you'll need the play: The verse, which is way too easy. The bridge(all preordained...),that's easy too. The chorus, where you need to play a couple of notes. And the solo, which is,well, hard. You're gonna have to practice man.Just listen to the song,or look at its tab,and you'll know which notes are unnecessary,if there are any. TacRedline
Yea... What I do is write the vocal cues IN the tab so if I fall behind I can scan ahead in the tab to an upcoming vocal part. But I always do have a hard time figuring out what the root notes are in the fills...
Mustard Death
Xanadu is fun as hell and easy to add your own fills to (whether they sound as good as Geddy or not), it might seem difficult, but just give it about a week and you should be rocking out. The Body Electric is also really, really fun and easier than Xanadu. Andddd... Middletown Dreams is another good one, easy to pick up, and fun to fill in on your own. Groovybass77
Tom Sawyer is crazy easy! you may have a bit of trouble when Geddy starts playing that keyboard riff on the bass, but other than that its wicked simple.
antifreeze
It hit me right now:Red Sector A But it's unbelievably boring to play, from beginning to end.
Mars On The Horizon
When i was starting out waaaay back when, i would play certain parts of Rush songs only. Once i had those down i would work on the harder parts and eventually get the whole thing. Cygnus X-1: intro Grand Designs: verses Mystic Rhythms: 2nd verse Red Barchetta: breakdown ("wind...in my hair") Time Stand Still: instrumental section (part in 7) Some easier whole songs: The Pass, War Paint, RTB, Bravado, Face Up, Entre Nous, Different Strings, Witch Hunt... And its basic stuff. So its easy to play on bass.

And its basic stuff. So its easy to play on bass. I've played along with RSA to build endurance & practice precise timing over the years, and i must say it's NOT easy to play. With two fingers that is. It's not too hard to play with a pick as you can just up pick/down pick all the way through. But pumping out all those notes with your RH for 5 minutes is a difficult workout! The LH stuff is simple of course, but you still haver to nail all the note changes perfectly like a sequencer to do it right. Everything is a steady stream of sequenced 16th notes (until the instrumental section), and any time you're a slight bit off timing-wise, you hear the mistake big time. Another way to play it is to strum all the 16th notes with your index finger the way Geddy does in "Animate", etc. This is easier on the RH compared to plucking, but again it comes down to timing.
