mfratt
I've been looking at the GUP album cover, trying to figure out its meaning, but I'm drawing a blank. Does anyone care to throw in their wisdom on this matter?
circumstantial tree
The water is symbolic of grace and the storm clouds are symbolic of various kinds of pressure. The water seems to remain calm despite the growing "storm" above. Hey, I tried...

Presto-digitation
QUOTE (King Rygar @ Mar 24 2007, 05:13 PM) The answer is "mary Jane" Best answer that's likely to be given. Close the thread. I don't know. I'm not sure there's a literal "this image means THIS...and that image means THAT." Could just be a really badass image.

GeddyRulz
QUOTE (ES-335 @ Mar 25 2007, 03:11 PM) I hate it when i see a storm with a row of teeth and a big red eye. The row of teeth and the eye appear to be part of a distant mountain. Take that part as a whole, and it looks like a hawk or eagle, with the snowcaps part of his "bald" head. The humanoid figure certainly relates to "The Body Electric," but what's that object floating over the water? I always thought of it as the rusted metallic hull of a spacecraft, broken-off from the ship. And I thought it was cool how the edges of the painting extend into negative space; those red globules, and the water at the bottom. goose
"The serene and peaceful bottom part of the picture represents 'grace', the turbulent and troubled top represents 'pressure'. Thus; 'grace" under "pressure', or 'P' over 'G'. The humanoid figure is just a symbol relating to the two conditions, but also relates a bit to 'The Body Electric.'" - Neil Peart, "Backstage Club Newsletter", Janurary 1988"The background imagery simply mirrors the P/G symbol; grace UNDER pressure In a physical sense. Abstract, but simple. The head represents the onlooker perhaps, or an "everyman" symbol facing the world, and perhaps a hint of the character In "The Body Electric". Thats about it really." - Neil Peart, "Backstage Club Newsletter", September 1988 Power Windows.com :bump:
LeChuck
I always wonder about the teeth and eye too. I guess they are somehow part of the image of “pressure”. PS - This just came up in the Hugh Syme interview thread. He said to him the three shapes in the middle were just an interesting non-specific texture to put there. So they aren’t plane wings or rusting razor blades or anything.
