Everyone goes on about the twin guitar sound of Lizzy, but it was always Phil & Brian for me.

THIS!

I have always thought Phil was a great bass player. He never just held down the bottom end, he always played melodic bass lines and the bass was always up front in the mix.

Brian Downey is the most underrated drummer of all time. The man is a beast behind the kit. I think his best playing was on the 1st and 3rd albums though. I mean he was and is still great but he played best during the early, early days.

I heard that they are going through about 150 tapes recorded by the band. Mostly all unheard songs and takes. Estimated 700 songs total. I think parts of it are coming out in a boxset(s) later this year.

The deluxe editions of Black Rose & Live & Dangerous arrived this week.

Do I really need them? No.

Am I glad I got them? Oh yes.

I have all the deluxe editions up to Live and Dangerous. Black Rose is next on the list. I actually spend more time on the Peel sessions and other 'Disc 2' stuff than on the albums themselves.

You mentioned Sitamoia a while back, an absolute stonker of a song! Another one of my favourite Lizzy tracks -

Super track. From a shockingly under-valued album.

The 3 Eric Bell Lizzy albums are essential. The 3 Decca remasters are full of goodies too. A bit of replication on the BBC box set, but a completist gotta complete!

Just watched the Thin Lizzy DVD that was released over here on monday.

Live at the National Stadium Dublin, recorded on the Fighting Tour, 1975.

Fantastic and Raw 1022.gif

Plus there's a bonus documentary, which was made in the early 80's, featuring interviews with Phil Lynott...plus a few other bits and pieces.

Great stuff

Hey mister can I shine your shoes?

Hey mister can I sing the blues?

Hey mister do you think it's gonna snow?

Hey mister my heart belongs to Glasgow

Hey mister can I ask a question or two?

Hey mister what are we supposed to do?

Children abandoned and left to America

Children forsaken in Ethiopia

Hey mister so you think it's gonna snow?

What about the children though?
