Why I didn't go to Rushcon 2112

So why didn't I go to Rushcon this year? Answer: Time and money...both scarcities on occassion. Basically I chose to travel to Italy a few weeks ago instead of hitting Rushcon last July. The pics that I saw from many of you good folks during that time made me jealous. Well, here's my turn to make you all jealous with my own photos taken a couple of weeks ago. wink.gif

I'm having to choose from over 500 pics so obviously I won't post all of them. There's also the issue of choosing which I thought were good. Anyways, this first set were all taken in Florence (I'll get to the other 2 sets ((which were taken on the north western coast & Rome)) later)....

My bro (who lives in the states; so meeting up with him is a rarity) and I at the train station about an hour or so after our arrival...

Many many steps were climbed to get to this view...

A replica of 'David' in the back...I couldn't take pics of the REAL David since photos weren't allowed in his section of the museum (the Galleria of Academia?)

Wow..your pics are fantastic!! yes.gif

Last time I was in florence was about 15yrs ago. I had gone with my girlfriend and we travelled by train/car and even hitchhiked from the top of the boot to the bottom..staying in hostels.

My biggest memory was when I got robbed by an 8yr old gypsy sad.gif - passport, $1,000 and all my I.D...gone). It was brutal going to the Canadian Embassy to prove who you were. Had to call my dad..to wire me some money... laugh.gif (He wasn't impressed..lol) and then about 3yrs after I returned from that trip, I recieved my birthcertificate, social security # and driver's license in the mail...they found it in a dumpster laugh.gif

But, other than that incident, we had an amazing time....So..I can just vision the great time you had.

Keep the pics coming...it's bringing back some great memories for me. biggrin.gif

My boyfriend's sister has gone on their honeymoon there among other places in Italy. She's probably in Zurich at the moment.

Great pics!

Thanks all. Though I love these pics, it still doesn't capture how great it truly was.

Here are a few more of Florence.

So after a few days in Florence we were off to the western coast for a hike (2 nights there...1 full day of hiking). The particular area was called The Cinque Terre...which by just looking at the word means 'Five Lands'. It contains 5 villages connected by train and well-maintained trails. Geographically it's about an hour north of Pisa. The distance from the northernmost village, where we stayed, to the southernmost was about 20 km. The trails were occassionally steep but we still managed to hike the whole thing in a day...even with wine & gelatto breaks every 2 hours or so! smile.gif

This was our worst day (weatherwise) of our entire trip. Yet it still came down just a little bit stronger than a sprinkle for a few hours. Sometimes I like those kinds of hikes. Our time in Florence & Rome were completely sunny. Lucky! common001.gif

Hiking south meant vineyards and wooded areas on my left much of the time while the sea was faithfully on my right...

It was cool to be walking through wooded areas, then pass a vineyard, then be back near the sea along cliffs, THEN to be suddenly looking DOWN into a quaint little village.

But one of the villages we hiked through was ON the cliffs. Nice.
