Songs Recreated By Movies

I was in the supermarket and they were playing the song "You're So Vain". I couldn't help but think of this chick flick How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days (not a great movie, btw) where Kate Hudson sings the song to Matthew McConaughey and changes the words and it's really funny.

That got me thinking about songs that are in movies that completely recreate the songs. By recreate, I don't mean that they're usually altered (though often they're sung by one or more of the actors along with the song), but that it gives the song new life, sometimes making a song popular again that hasn't been a hit for years or decades.

More importantly, the song fits at such a crucial point in the movie that every time you hear the song afterward on the radio or wherever, you can't help but think of that scene in that movie.

Here are some examples I thought of.

Top Gun - You've Lost That Loving Feeling

Wayne's World - Bohemian Rhapsody

Risky Business - Old Time Rock And Roll

Almost Famous - Tiny Dancer

Anyone got some others? The criteria to use is that the song is so synonymous with the movie, that you don't even have to describe the scene. For anyone who's seen the movie, they'll KNOW what you're talking about...

Definitely Bohemian rhapsody for Wayne's World. Otherwise, the song "Mad World" for Donnie Darko. A deep song for a deeper movie. "And I think it's kinda funny, I think it's kinda sad, the dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had."

Ferris Bueller: Ooohhh yeaaahhh (I don't know who does that one)

Caddyshack: Any Way You Want It (Journey); I'm All Right (Kenny Loggins)

Boogie Nights: Anytime I hear one of those cheesy 70s songs, this movie comes to mind. "I tihnk that's 100% imported Italian nylon."

Wayne's World: someone already said Bohemian Rhapsody, but Gary Wright's Dream Weaver is another one.

Austin Powers: Incense and Peppermint (Strawberry Alarm Clock)

Animal House: Shout (Isley Brothers)

Wall Street: Fly Me to the Moon

Ferris Bueller: Twist and Shout - The Beatles, Danke Schoen - Wayne Newton. btw Oh Yeah! was done by Yello

Hudson Hawk: Swinging on a Star - Bing Crosby (a semi bad movie, but the use of the old crooner tunes to keep time during their heists was ingenious and funny).

When I hear these songs on the radio, I always think of the movie:

The Police's "Roxanne," as sung by Eddie Murphy in 48 Hours.

Tom Petty's "American Girl," sung by the Senator's daughter - moments before she's abducted - in Silence of the Lambs.

Led Zep's "Kashmir," played on Ratner's date in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. (Damone had told Ratner to play LED ZEPPELIN 4, which doesn't contain "Kashmir"!)

When every I hear "Tuesday's Gone" by Lynyrd Skynyrd

I always think of Dazed and Confused.

Funny, whenever I hear Never Been Any Reason by Head East or Slow Ride by Foghat, I think of that movie.

E5150/Mob Rules makes me think of Heavy Metal.

I guess soundtracks don't count.

Moving in Stereo makes me think Fast Times at Ridgemont High

Magic Bus from Live at Leeds was in Goodfellas

Funk 49 makes me think Detroit Rock City when Jam's friends raz him for wearing the outfit his mom bought him from K-mart

One of My Turns I can't listen to without thinking of the scene in Pink Floyd The Wall where Geldof trashes the hotel room and cuts his hand and yells "TAKE THAT F*CKERS!"

Both of these for me too!!

Another one for me:

Stuck in the Middle With You - Steelers Wheels

Reservoir Dogs, in case you were wondering. It's probably the most memorable scene in the movie.

And one of the more disgusting, if I am thinking of the right scene (where Mr Blonde cuts the cop's ear off with the straight razor and then starts talking into it).

Little Green Bag is another one that quickly identifies with that film.

I don't know if this is the true title BUT: "These boots are made for walkin'"-Full Metal Jacket. It's used in the 1st Vietnam scene when that prostitute approaches Joker and Rafterman with the infamous line: "Me love you long time"

"Don't you forget about me"- Breakfast Club

"Blaze of Glory"-Young Guns 2 (I try to forget the song but can't...at least I like the movie)

Almost Famous- I agree with Gooooobbbbbiiiieeee, Elton John's, "Tiny Dancer" and also The Allman Brothers Band with "One Way out" and of course..."Fever Dog" by Stillwater!

Elizabethtown-Wheat-"Don't I Hold You" or Nancy Wilson's Etown Theme song! biggrin.gif ....OR I Nine- Same in every Langauge..... or Lindsey Buckingham's, "Shut Us Down"....it's hard to pick songs from Cameron's movies...too many songs that intermingle with eachother.

Vanilla Sky-Radiohead- "Everything In Its Right Place"

Remember The Titans- The Hollies- "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress"
