OK, my liquor store is finally stocking something other than AB products laugh.gif Other than Samuel Smith's line I've been unable to find any decent beers here, but imagine my surprise when I saw http://www.bier1.de/images/Old%20Rasputin.JPG these! Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout.

At $10 a 4 pack, is it worth it? I dont' mind paying, but I want to know if it's worth or not?

Haven't seen it up here. Never tried it. But it got an outstanding rating on Beer Advocate. trink38.gif

yeah, that's where I first noticed it. It's right there in the top 100, but I figured I'd ask and see if anyone has tried it. I guess I'll spring for it and give the official TRF review. trink38.gif

If it's anything like Samuel Smith Russian Imperial Stout, it's too strong for me. And I like stouts.

Since I'm a comparative lightweight, this is what I'm drinking right now:

Found it at Trader Joe's. Not bad. Sam Adams had a similar one that I tried years ago and enjoyed.

I drink a fair amount of stout, but Imperial Stout is a tad too strong for me from a flavor perspective. Others may not relate, but almost all Imperial Stouts kinda remind me of Soy Sauce?

That's the best of the chocolate stouts. The Sam Adams one is the Chocolate Bock. Haven't tried that one yet.

If you want to do something cool with a chocolate stout, mix it with some raspberry lambic. I think 60% stout and 40% lambic was the right mix. Maybe 70%-30%. It's dessert!

Sounds good, I'll have to look for it.

Just finished my first Old Rasputin. This is a darn good stout. If you are a fan of the stout style, I heartily recommend you try this one. And at 9% abv it does pack a little punch. It is a "heavy" beer and I don't think I'd want to consume more than one at a sitting, but it is a very enjoyable and satisfying brew. trink38.gif
