No offense tick, I moved it to the concert review section as thats what it was. There are a lot of people who complain about Dream Theater, and to try to minimize that, I merge any multiple DT threads into this one, or into another thread if the topic deserves to be moved there. Just trying to keep the redudency level to a minimum smile.gif

well i just want to hear the feed back on this one.i love this band, even though ive only been a fan about 8 months, believe it or not.i recently found out here that alot of neil fans dont like portnoy, well i do.the guy can play, and ya know what he has nothing to do with neil, neil is the master ,always was, always will be!people say dream theater steals from everyone,i dont care they rock! lastly scenes from a memory is one of the greatest albums of its kind ever written.plain and simple dream theater is an awesome band! 1022.gif

Consider it done.

I got into Rush first then my friend who is more into metal was introduced to Rush by me, and after hearing them he became a Rush fan but also introduced me to one of his bands: Dream Theater, very Rush influenced, and over all awesome band.

I recently saw them in concert in Toronto at Massey Hall and man they put on a wicked show, and to top it off they covered a Rush tune, they covered Jacob's Ladder and did a really damn good job on it.

now Dream Theater is in my top 3 bands right under Rush and Pink Floyd.

Wow...

I've been following DT for a long. long time now and Portnoy, acting as spokesman, has given so many other bands praise, never saying anything nasty ever, so I can see why he's tired of biting his tongue. I've heard him promote QR several times in interviews. DT makes QR look like they're still in diapers musically, not that it makes DT a better band or anything, but I can't blame Mike for striking back this time. When you work as hard as DT does, against the grain, & you're always supportive of other bands and they go around your back dogging on you, it's gotta be really hard to stay nice forever and not vent... confused13.gif

oh yeah it will be a kick ass dvd!(little dissapointet they didnt play TTT)
6DOIT with full orchestra. what more can i ask?

U shoulda seen take the time back when they were young and hungry. It just aint the same any more. The '93 Japan video kinda captures it, but there's been nothing like seeing them do it live from about '92-'94. To me, once Kevin Moore quit, they lost an element that's never been replaced. Derick was great and Jordan rules, but they just had this chemistry when Kevin was in the band. I don't know if anyone agrees with that, but there was nothing like seeing DT play Metropolis pt1 back when they first got James Labrie in the early nineties IMHO. applaudit.gif

I have read that that it was the entire second set and encore that the orchestra performed for.

In general I don't go for the orchestra/ band collaboration but am curious what this sounds like. Especially Matropolis Part 1.

It would be nice if you could select "fukk that orchestra" option on the audio options menu... lol 1022.gif

I subscribed to this newsletter, and thought some of you may find it interesting! There's stuff about the new OSI album too 1022.gif

Message from Mike Portnoy regarding the Radio City Music Hall show

"Without going into too much detail (I promised myself and my family

some rest and time away from the computer), I have to THANK all

of you in attendance last night at Radio City Music Hall for

helping to make last night's show one of the most incredible

evenings of my life.

Of the hundreds of shows (maybe thousands at this point?) that

we've done through the years, never before have I been moved on

stage as much as I was last night.

There were several points in the night where I was literally

brought to tears by the power and emotion in the air.

I just wanted to thank our AMAZING fans from all over the world

that helped make last night so electric and magical from start

to finish....you guys were the ULTIMATE audience last night!

We always dreamed of playing with an Orchestra one day and last

night's performance surpassed my wildest expectations.

Jamshied Sharifi (our beloved arranger & conductor) and the

incredible musicians behind us rose to the occasion and lifted

our music to a whole new orgasmic level.

I cannot wait to share this evening with all of you that weren't

able to attend via the upcoming DVD and CD sets that I will be

working on in the coming months.

(No rest for the wicked...or at least me!)

I truly believe last night was the PINNACLE of our 20 year

career thus far and an incredible ending to the latest

chapter in DT history.

How the hell will we top it???????????

Give me some time, and I'll think of something!

Luv, MP"

Hey guys. My uncle's friend is a big fan of prog metal and he loaned me Dream Theater's "Octavarium". Is this a good starting point? I did some research and I know that this is their latest album. I'm sure it will be fantastic.
