pedro2112
QUOTE (Dread Pirate Robert @ Jan 30 2006, 11:25 PM) It's on right now -- Animal House. I was thinking about this movie just the other day. I at first thought that it was, pound for pound, the funniest movie ever made. However, after further deliberation, I realized that would not be correct. Airplane, has more "spot on" jokes per minute. Overal, Animal House is a "better" movie, but Airplane has more flat out laughs in it.
Rush!
IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER (however, in order of release): Animal House (1978) The Blues Brothers (1980) The Shining (Jack Nicholson version, 1980) Pink Floyd: The Wall Movie (amazing movie, 1982)

Midway Hawker
Wow, tough to name just one "greatest" of all time.. For comedic brilliance, I'd have to go with Young Frankenstein (with honorable mention to Caddyshack and many others). For a non-comedy, I'd go with Amercian Beauty. I have seen Airplane about 10 times, but STILL laugh at it constantly with each new viewing. Truly a brilliant bit of comedy.

No movie comedy has more inspired casting than "Caddyshack." I have to assume those parts were written specifically for Ted Knight, Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield and Bill Murray, but still. Dread Pirate Robert
For the record, I did not actually intend to start a "what is the greatest movie, or movies, of all time" thread. Such a thread is a great idea, and I am happy that this has turned into one. Lots of great movies have been named so far. In all honesty, however, this thread arose purely as an unintentional byproduct of my being really drunk on Bigfoot Ale at a time when Animal House came on and then feeling inspired to praise that movie
