it was that i just didn't care about any of the characters.  none of them were particularly extremely likeable people and i just didn't care what happened to them.  eventually as i grew to appreciate the show more, this became less important, but ultimately i still feel the characters are somehow impersonal.  this is very different from a show like friends where i cared deeply about the characters and all of them were likeable.

That was the entire point of the series... to have main characters with little or no redeeming values. Taken to it's logical conclusion would lead you to Curb Your Enthusiasm on HBO.

i appreciate all that, and i do enjoy it and watch it often, but it's because i care so little about them that i don't love the show as much as i would otherwise. thinking back on some of the great sitcoms i've loved and do love - mash, taxi, family ties, roseanne, the cosby show, the wonder years, friends, will & grace, that 70's show, etc. - all of them had characters i cared about, and with seinfeld i just don't. still, a great show. unlike what someone else mentioned here, there are episodes of seinfeld or huge chunks of some episodes that don't do much for me - other ones i find brilliant and consistently hilarious...

I don't have HBO but I have to check that show out sometimes, I heard so many good things about it. Is Larry David involved with this show also? I think he is half the brains of Seinfeld as far as the writing.

I hope this comes out on DVD soon, then I will be able to see it. What is weird, I didn't watch Seinfeld until they quit taping the shows. In the 90's all I did was work and play music and never watched TV but now I watch a lot of TV so since like 1999 I have watched every episode of Seinfeld 50 times over. Most people was burned out on it by then but I was just getting started.

Just think, if you never heard any Rush songs and someone just turned you on to Rush today and you got to listen to their songs for the first time. I'm sure I would love the songs but a lot times when I listen to Rush it takes me back to my younger years and it gives me this great feeling as I remember the days when Rush was just about all I listened to for a while. It's kind of like that. yes.gif

I envy the people who never seen Seinfeld and they can go buy the DVD's and watch them for the first time. That would be sooo cool!!!! I hope when the DVD's come out for "curb" I will enjoy it as much as everyone is now. It's nice having something like this in your back pocket because frankly, there's not that many funny shows on TV anymore.

The show is Larry David.. he created it, wrote it and stars in it. You'd love it!

It's just the right amount of vomit to perfectly describe both the idiotic television shows and the dumbed-down, mind-numbed lemming slaves that find them entertaining.

Stand by lemmings!! If you think that's vomit inducing, wait 'till you're plummeting over the cliff without possibility of rescue. Coming this spring to a neighborhood near you. schla03.gif

Whoa... thread revived. Suprisingly, I had never voted in this. I picked Seinfeld... it's one of the best sitcoms ever. While I love early That 70's Show, I just think Seinfeld is funnier and more intelligent overall.. and the writing stayed good for a lot longer than 70's too.

Seinfeld, easily.

That 70s Show was good at first, but I lost interest after a while. It became the same jokes over and over...ho ho Red's gonna put his foot in Eric's ass again. Seinfeld has so many memorable moments for me.
