schoey Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 although they both have their great bits, i think baterista is extremly well structured
evitageN Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Der Trommler clicked better with me, if that makes sense
1-0-0-1-0-0-1 Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 I thought "Der Trommler" dragged a bit in a couple of spots, and Neil gave the orchestra slam section (the section just before the big band ending) a different feel than he did in "Baterista," and I didn't like it as much. Overall, "O Baterista" is more punchy, so I give it the edge.
cygnus147 Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 I voted "Der Trommler" because i think the structure is more effective than "O Baterista".
Mandalorian Hunter Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 Der Trommler seems to be much more streamlined and, better.
progrush2112 Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 damn that's a hard decision Neil's a badass anyway, but i went with Der Trommler cause of the keyboard stuff from "Pieces of Eight" That melody is so cool!
thestand Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 I had to go with Der Trommler. I liked with him starting on the electric side.
CanEHdian Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Can I vote for both As soon as I hear Either of them I get goosebumps!!
Vicious Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 QUOTE (progrush2112 @ Dec 27 2005, 09:27 PM) damn that's a hard decision Neil's a badass anyway, but i went with Der Trommler cause of the keyboard stuff from "Pieces of Eight" That melody is so cool! Pieces of Eight? Enlighten me, please
frouse Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Tough decision! For me, they are the same. They share a lot! Jeez, they are the same whole but arranged in a bit different way. The sequence of elements incorporated is changed and that's all! The order presented in O'Baterista appeals to me more, that's why I put my precious vote on that one.
2112-Rob-2112 Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 i voted Baterista beacuse its just more catchy but I think Trommler is probly harder to do.
KublaKhan Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Der Trommler. It just sounded better. And Becasue they did "Mystic Rhythms" before it, he was on his electric set, so he could get that part outta the way im not a big electric fan), and in O'Baterista he switches alot. Im sure these are in all his drum solos, but I find his "switch arm" thing is amazing.

Pieces of Eight? Enlighten me, please A solo recorded by Neil which incorporates a lot of use of the midi-marimba. It's also an album by Styx.
Cygnalschick Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 That's really a hard one! But O Baterista really blew me away when I heard it live the first time.
sdpatton Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 O Baterista here...I much prefer the sound of the kit, I like starting with the front/go to the back/then return to the front, I prefer the phrasing of the horn section...the marimba part from "Pieces of Eight" feels totally out of place to me in "Der Trommler"...don't get me wrong, "Der Trommler" is an awe-inspiring piece of work, I'm just over-analyzing things...
telegraphcreeklocal Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Der Trommler. It's the latest solo therefore it is the better of the two. Also the dream drum kit is so awesome. Always striving to get better, that's Neil Peart.
2 Soups Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 They're both of course, but I prefer O Baterista abit myself.
