Rod in Toronto Posted September 9 Posted September 9 I reached out to Mitch Seekins online and he agreed to sit down tomorrow to discuss Geddy's training for the 50 Something Tour. I know this is VERY short notice, but let me know if you have questions for him! 3
Principled Man Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Dear Mitch, Does Geddy strive to hit the high notes like he used to do, and if so, do you feel like you have to "rein him in"? 3
JCW555VT Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Oooh awesome! No questions from me but tell him a big thank you from me for shaving 20 years off of Geddy's vocals. I've watched a lot of videos of the Fifty Something tour and Geddy hasn't sounded this good since R30 IMO. He still yelps on occasion but it's nowhere near as bad as it was during the CA/R40 tours at times. I guess that's a question in and of itself. How do you go about trying to shave years off of someone's vocals? 1
WY Man Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Mr. Seekins: What role does diet play in Geddy's vocal health, and does Geddy drink anything specific before going onstage to "lubricate" his throat, or to boost his vocal stamina? Does the coach think Ged's long-term vocal range will improve over time during the tour, or is the long-term more of a potential for vocal problems? Will Loren Gold be expected to fill in on any vocal parts? Many thanks for talking to the coach Rod! 1
blueschica Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Great get on the interview, Rod! If I think of anything I will post it!
blueschica Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Mitch, besides Geddy, are there other rock lead singers you admire and/or feel have handled their vocals well over a long career ??
Lurkst Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Looking forward to your interview Rod. I heard Mitch say he was a fan back in the day, I was wondering if he had a favourite Rush song in terms of vocals, or even an album? Given the variety of singing Geddy achieved over the years
James Bond Posted September 9 Posted September 9 I'd be curious how much influence Mitch had in Geddy refining some of the vocal lines in songs like Tom Sawyer and Limelight (both of which see notable melody changes), as well as other songs like The Spirit Of Radio where Geddy has reverted to cadences similar to the original recording that he hasn't sung that way in years (if ever). Geddy has spoken at length about re-learning how to maximize his voice and use some of the highs, but those three songs in particular stand out to me as a different approach. 1
Rod in Toronto Posted September 15 Author Posted September 15 Here's the interview: Hope you guys like it! 1
portalrushzine Posted September 16 Posted September 16 THANK YOU, Rodrigo. In Brazil we are portalrushbrasil, but here on this Rush forum we are rushzine.com. It was a wonderful interview. It was great to discover some behind-the-scenes stories. YYZ Hugs, my friend, Tanios Acacio from Portal Rush Brasil.
James Bond Posted September 16 Posted September 16 Great interview! Thanks for asking about the melodies. It sounds like that's something Geddy very much did on his own. Mitch also erroneously says they didn't change the key of Anthem, so it must have been a fairly last minute decision on the band's part to drop the key of that one. 1
Rod in Toronto Posted September 16 Author Posted September 16 Thanks man! We had a blast talking to him. What a great guy!
