The irony is that RUSH uses AI to create their light show. The light show is the visual atmosphere of every Rush concert, and the band members are, and always have been the MUSIC. AI is a tool. (Science) It can make our lives better. But it can, and is, being used in very dangerous ways today. "Science, like nature, must also be tamed, with a view towards its preservation."

 

That's what I think, and I am free to think that and express it here.

 

Perhaps, with integrity, AI might serve us well. Neil Peart truly was a prophet to realize this 50 years ago and put it into verse for us.

Rush and Hugh Syme using AI is a major disappointment too. Its not a tool for art, it's a cheap shortcut to avoid actual work. To help analyze spreadsheets or gather data, it absolutely is useful. To create art, it only helps the lazy.

 

Ideally AI is a tool to allow us to time for leisure to create art. Instead it's being used to create art which is one of the reasons we want the leisure time to begin with! With what they're charging for tickets they could have easily hired an actual human artist to make something rather than use a machine that makes an imitation of someone else's art in a cheap, gaudy fashion.

i won’t post spoilers here for R50…but there were images used during the show that I found genuinely moving…and images that I found gaudy and disappointing. Some were photos, some were AI creations…I’m sure you can guess which were in which column for me.
