TheHonestMan Posted August 6 Posted August 6 (edited) New interview with Alex just released by Q107. During it he officially announces that all 4 Toronto shows will be recorded for a future release. https://q107.com/news/12011065/rush-makes-exclusive-announcement-ahead-of-toronto-shows/ Edited August 6 by TheHonestMan 9
grep Posted August 6 Posted August 6 (edited) Great news. The hometown shows should look and sound fantastic on that release. If that's the case, then there can't be boots of those shows on Dime, per their rules. Edited August 6 by grep 1
James Bond Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Excellent. I wonder if they'll get Aimee Mann out for these - she's finished her own tour now. 5
Union 5-3992 Posted August 6 Posted August 6 I'm glad I nabbed tickets for tomorrow last minute. Though I imagine set 2 or 3 is more likely to make the full live album. Maybe I'll end up on a bonus track like R40 again 4

But I haven't been collecting/trading/downloading live music for a little while now. 1

Maybe I'll end up on a bonus track like R40 again That's how I feel when I watch Distant Early Warning among the other bonus tracks: "Hey - there I am - I think!" Watching all those little technical errors throughout night one last time around was truly fascinating. I remember my friend and I walking out of it going, "well, it looks like night two will be the main feature." 3

Still there. Every show except for Mexico City night 2 is up there. Multiple recordings of some of them. 1
XanaD.E.W. Posted August 6 Posted August 6 So does that mean Cleveland is a no-go for filming now? Either way, that's still great news. 1

Since there was never any official comment from the band on Cleveland, I'd wager that it probably won't be filmed. At least not to the same extent that the TO shows will be. I've always wanted to attend a show that was filmed and almost bought tickets for Cleveland based on that rumor. It will still be a great show no doubt, but very glad I didn't go through the trouble and expense of arranging travel just for the filming that appears won't take place.

TheHonestMan Posted August 6 Author Posted August 6 The RUSH Facebook account just posted about the filming and has a quote from Geddy where he mentions "over 40 songs" will be played across the 4 nights. That's a few more than we've seen so far on this tour. Will we finally get the Dog Years/Tai Shan/Anagram medley we've all been dying for? 3 1
zepphead Posted August 6 Posted August 6 This is great news. Now, being the completist that I am, I would like entire shows, rather than an amalgam of the best bits from each of the shows. But perhaps I am just getting greedy!! 4

I have it on good authority that Xanadu will be dropped in favour of the long overdue Dog Years/Tai Shan melody. 1 2

You know we joke about Dog Years but I actually do really like that song and would love to see it live. When my dog died of cancer a few years ago, I made a photo montage of him set to Dog Years. Seeing all those pictures of my dog next to my kids when they were babies really made the lyrics sink as, as cheesy as they may be at times. Not to mention Geddy's bass tone and playing on that track are top notch. 2

Like much of Test For Echo, it seems to be the lyrics that work against it. I think the guitar and bass work kind of anticipates a tonal direction that would be more refined on the subsequent albums. 1 hour ago, XanaD.E.W. said: So does that mean Cleveland is a no-go for filming now? I think at this point it's same to assume that Aimee Mann was mistaken - or perhaps there were still some preliminary discussions as to where filming would take place back when she heard about it. 1
JCW555VT Posted August 6 Posted August 6 (edited) I'm glad they're filming so early on in the tour. From Time Machine-onward I'd say, they filmed too late into the tour when Geddy's voice wasn't the best. Some bootlegs of Time Machine/CA/R40 sound better than the official releases of said tours vocal-wise. Edited August 6 by JCW555VT 1
bscsmkr Posted August 6 Posted August 6 I know that there is a less than 1% chance of it happening, but I have a weird feeling that there is going to be a surprise track or two specifically for Toronto and for them to film And I am going to say it is going to be ....................................................................The Necromancer yes wishful thinking as it is the one that I wanted to see and hear live the most, but I knew the possible reality of that Gut feeling. Like Losing It on R40

Plus whatever vocal training he's been doing. 1

I do hope that we get to see full releases of those video feeds the band’s social media manager has been teasing on Instagram though. Always wanted to have a pro shot recording of a Rush show I attended. I’ve seen the band twice on this tour now (4 times total now) and I’ll planning on both San Antonio shows as well so 6 times total. 1

Like Losing It on R40 While I think Geddy saying the 40 songs thing was probably just a generalization on his part, I suppose it's not impossible to imagine a scenario that sees Marathon and/or The Necromancer appear as those were the likely candidates for the cut songs. They've had a few days off and could have easily rehearsed a couple more now that there is less pressure.

I would love it if that was true but did I miss something where that was actually reported that they rehearsed that song?

From what I gathered on Reddit, someone had come across Anika's Spotify playlist (which was set as a public playlist - not sure if that is still the case) that had everything we've heard on the tour, plus Marathon and The Necromancer. Marathon has some extra weight to it because Alex mentioned it during the Rick Beato interview. So, as of now, the consensus is that those were the two songs dropped. 2
JCW555VT Posted August 6 Posted August 6 The Necromancer would've been an insane pull, almost to the degree Losing It was for R40. I wonder how the narration would've been done and the associated graphics that would've accompanied it. 1
