How come the J. R. Flood album with Neil has never been re-released? And the original release was limited to about 100 copies?

If I had a guess, it's probably tied up in rights issues or nobody knows who owns it with label acquisitions, etc.

"It's Bob Morrison's younger brother Jim.  I'm amazed that this album is on You tube.  It was originally a vinyl album with only 5 or 6 copies made.  Neil found the tapes and burned some copies and gave them to Paul Dickinson...who then gave them to our family and so on....  The song titles are as follows... 1) Retribution 2) Gypsy 3) Wake Up 4) It's not hard 5) Lonely Man 6) Tide Keeps Rollin' 7) Flaming Blackbird 8) Giant Killer 9) Polar Bear (2 dropouts) 10) Retribution (alternate version).  They were a young and very talented band."

 

Less than 10 albums ever made of this album! Thanks to Neil Peart the demo tapes were located, and we have it available now on YouTube. One of the surviving band members really should get this published and re-released.

If you enjoy JR Flood, there is a kinda interesting documentary on YouTube called "The Big Story Of Small Potatoes" about the rock scene in the Niagara/St. Catharines region from 1964 to 1974. It highlights local Niagara area rock bands and parts of it detail Neil Peart's roots before he joined Rush. It's in 4 parts, which is kind of a pain, but I enjoyed it.

Neil talked about how he was into more psychedelic influences early on also- he even mentioned the Grateful Dead's influence on JR Flood, and the whole San Francisco scene in the '60s that fostered them.

 

Also an interesting side note- on a night off during the Counterparts tour Neil went to see the Grateful Dead at the Omni in Atlanta.
