Let a drummer with some groove and power take over.” Good lord. Imagine being so desperate to get a rise out of Rush fans that you'll say the exact opposite of the truth. 3
grep Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Lots of angry bored people out there. Just looking for a reason to lash out or call attention to themselves. Pay them no mind. 5

TheHonestMan Posted July 6 Posted July 6 I just took a glance at the available tickets for the rescheduled dates. 2 thoughts immediately jumped into my head: 1. Wow, there's a TON of seats still available. 2. They need to immediately lower the prices even more. It's still hundreds of dollars for a seat, and the venue doesn't even look half sold. The show on the 11th is only 5 days away - no chance it comes close to sold out. I can already see the sensationalized headlines about poor attendance and empty seats (devoid of any context regarding the rescheduling, of course). Not exactly the PR you want early in the tour.
PAFHumbucker Posted July 6 Posted July 6 (edited) Well whatever algorithm or AI they are using for dynamic pricing ain't lowering the prices of the tickets, so probably people are slowly buying seats for the current prices. The front of the floor and the upper bowl are thin as far as seats remaining, so it just goes to show you, people are willing to pay a reasonable price for a ticket up in the upper bowl, or more for a really good seat on the floor, but not 400 bucks for a seat in between. PAFHumbucker Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Bouncing things off Google Gemini for the hell of it... Spoiler Quote 1. The "Dead Zone" of Concert Pricing What you are seeing on the seating chart is a textbook example of the "Barbell Effect" in modern live entertainment. Demand for high-end experiences is incredibly polarized: [Premium Experience] [The Dead Zone] [Budget Conscious] Front Floor / VIP Packages Mid-Tier Lower Bowl Upper Nosebleeds (High Demand / Fast) ($400 - $600 "Okayish") (Low Cost / Fast) | | | "Willing to spend" "Stuck in limbo" "Just want in" The Front Rows / Upper Bowl Sell First: Fans are highly decisive at the extremes. Die-hards will gladly pay a premium to be close to Alex and Geddy, while casual fans or budget-conscious concertgoers look for cheap upper-bowl seats just to be in the building. The Mid-Tier Stagnates: The problem areas are always the side sections or mid-to-back lower bowl rows. At 400 to 600 dollars, these seats lack the prestige of the floor but are far too expensive for someone just looking for a fun Saturday night out. When a show gets rescheduled and hundreds of tickets are thrown back into the mix via refunds, it is almost exclusively these "middle-of-the-road" seats that get left behind. 2. How the Dynamic Pricing Algorithm is Being Fed Your theory about the algorithm is exactly how Ticketmaster’s system works. Ticketmaster's "Official Platinum" and dynamic pricing models rely on an AI-driven automated feedback loop: $$\text{Active Clicks/Buys} \rightarrow \text{Algorithm Registers Demand} \rightarrow \text{Prices Hold Firm}$$ If even a slow, steady trickle of fans are buying those 400 to 600 dollar seats at face value—perhaps out-of-towners realizing they can finally go, or local fans upgrading because of the weekend date change—the algorithm misinterprets that minimal activity as sustained demand. The system doesn't think, "We have hundreds of open seats we need to fire-sale." Instead, it looks at its programming data, sees that transactions are still registering, and decides to hold the price floor rather than dropping them back down to standard face value. The algorithm is incredibly stubborn; it will hold those inflated prices as long as it thinks someone might bite. The Final Turnout This pricing stalemate is exactly what fuels the online forum panic. People look at the map, see dozens of blue dots in the mid-tier sections priced out of reach, and assume the venue will look empty. But as the clock ticks down toward Saturday night, two things usually break the logjam: The Scalper Capitulation: Professional resellers holding these mid-tier seats can't afford to eat the loss. In the 48 hours leading up to the show, they will start aggressively undercutting Ticketmaster's fixed dynamic pricing on StubHub just to pull back some cash. The Promoter Release: If those primary mid-tier seats are still sitting open on the morning of July 11th, Live Nation will often manually override the algorithm, drop the "Platinum" label, and lower the prices to fill the gaps. The arena is going to be packed. The "dead zone" seats you're seeing are a pricing strategy glitch, not a lack of love for the band.
James Bond Posted July 6 Posted July 6 It will be fine. That's the latest thing the subreddit is losing its mind about. The idea that a show has to be a complete sellout to be successful is amusing. Wait until they check the statistics of past Rush tours. It must be the same crowd that complain about retail stores having to make money instead of selling everything at cost.
PAFHumbucker Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Yeah. They’ve already made so much money via the VIP seats that even with a thin house the show is happening. Also those blue dots will be cheaper closer to the show.
TheHonestMan Posted July 6 Posted July 6 I agree that the financial aspect won't be an issue. But optically, no major act wants to play to a half empty crowd. This is especially true at the beginning of a long awaited reunion tour. And unfortunately, in the age of clickbait websites and social media the *why* doesn't matter much. Some people simply won't care that the shows had to be rescheduled. They'll see photos of empty seats and declare the tour a failure. Will it have any real impact on future ticket sales? Probably not. But to my point earlier, it's just not the narrative you would want to have spreading on social media at this point.
singh99 Posted July 8 Posted July 8 I'm far more concerned with them struggling to do over 80 shows health wise than the impact of a couple shows that might not be fully sold out. I just want them to feel good and have tons of fun playing. Not struggle in pain like Neil did on R40. 2

James Bond Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Geddy posted an update on Instagram, and it is my unfortunate responsibility to inform everybody that he is totally fine and can't wait to hit the stage on Saturday. 9

Hey all - I do interact with Trips on X and he’s a good person. He wasn’t being negative. He knew that there would be a positive announcement coming up within a few hours but he couldn’t say so. How he knew - I don’t know. Unlike that Steve guitar guy who was claiming they were about to cancel a crap ton of shows. Now that person is a d+*k 1
TheHonestMan Posted July 10 Posted July 10 I'm glad he's posting these things so that people feel comfortable finalizing their plans for Saturday or buying some last minute tickets. 4
Brava Doh! Posted July 12 Posted July 12 The amount of people bitching on fb about how many empty seats there is tonight is embarrassing. what did people expect? Life is hard to reschedule…and it’s hurting them personally that there are empty seats? Bloody embarrassing. 2
TheHonestMan Posted July 12 Posted July 12 Nice to see that so many people showed up the day of to get tickets. Some of the upper sections in the back look almost empty, so I'm guessing those people were moved to better seats in the lower section. Always a welcome suprise when that happens. Also, is this the same arena where Clockwork Angels was filmed? Looks so much smaller in this picture. 1
