June 30 and July 2 shows postponed :(

To our fans,

We are deeply sorry to share that we must postpone our June 30 and July 2 shows.

Geddy has been diagnosed with laryngitis and bronchitis. After being evaluated by his doctors, he has been advised that he needs additional time to rest and recover before returning to the stage.

This is incredibly disappointing for all of us. We know many of you have made travel plans and have been counting down the days to these shows. Please know this decision was not made lightly. After more than 50 years of touring, we’ve always believed that if we’re going to step on stage, we owe you the very best performance we can give—and right now, that simply isn’t possible.

We’re grateful to everyone involved for helping us quickly find new dates to celebrate together.

The Sunday June 30 show has been rescheduled for Saturday July 11.

The Thursday July 2 show has been rescheduled for Monday July 13.

All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled dates. If you are unable to attend, refund information will be available from your original point of purchase.

Thank you for your patience, your understanding, and for always standing with us. We look forward to seeing you in just a couple of weeks and appreciate your continued support while Geddy makes a full recovery.

I'll be surprised if he even has a voice as the tour proceeds.

I kinda wonder if they're going to end up replacing Freewill with an easier to sing song. I can imagine that one is probably the hardest one to pull off. Xanadu is probably much more managable as he can adlib the second and third verses to be in a lower range like he did during R30 and R40

I honestly can't believe this. It's understandable that people get sick, but the Thursday show had already been rescheduled. Think of all the people that will have to book travel for the 3rd time to use their tickets.

 

Hopefully these issues are just bad luck all at once and not a sign of how the rest of the tour will proceed.

 

Edit: Also, I've never had bronchitis but sounds like it can sometimes be quite severe. Hopefully, this is a mild case and Geddy feels better soon.

Man.  I wonder how light in attendance those two shows are going to be when they happen.  There are going to be a lot of refunds.

 

Only a few weeks into the tour and one show has been rescheduled twice and now an additional show moved.

They started great but maybe they bit off more than they can chew with this tour, at the age they're at. And a long layoff can be a good thing and a bad thing, good because you've had a good rest but bad because you're not "match fit" over the long haul, that takes time to build up.

Really sorry for everyone who had tickets and travel plans tied to these dates. It’s frustrating, especially for anyone dealing with a second reschedule, but laryngitis and bronchitis are no joke for a singer. Hopefully Geddy gets the rest he needs and comes back strong, and hopefully the rescheduled dates work out for as many fans as possible.

The strange two week break between Dallas and Chicago now looks like a godsend!

 

Mentioned this before but I'm sure a chunk of the ticket prices will be to fund insurance costs and they've been well utilised already!

It is so different than previous tours since so many made travel plans because of the limited dates.  Hopefully Geddy is feeling better soon.  

 

I remember going to see 70 year old Tom Scholz with Boston 9 years ago, and 80 year old Roger Waters.  It is a bummer, but other artists their age tour.  

 

Hopefully it is just some bad luck.  At least they baked in some long breaks between cities so they could have the flexibility to reschedule, but it still really sucks for people traveling to the shows.

I think "postponed" should be in the thread title as "canceled" implies they won't be going ahead at all. I feel terrible for all those fans commuting, booking hotels and flights, and so forth. Hopefully just a fluke and the tour gets back on track.

Yeah.  I’ll bet Geddy wanted the show to go on and did everything he could until someone stepped in and told him he needs to rest.

 

With that said, I’m just going to game plan that if the first NYC show gets postponed for any reason when my wife and I travel up, I’m just going to take the refund and buy another guitar lol.  We’re going to catch two baseball games while we’re up there, and if those get rained out, we’ll figure out something else to do.  Roll the bones right?

Now I'm wondering if they're going to consider scrapping the meet and greets. I know they've always done them, but I'm assuming that the Limelight packages mean exposure to many more people compared to prior tours.

 

Plus, these guys are getting up there in age where catching a minor cold can on occasion turn into something more severe.

I was thinking this too. Just sscrap the meet and greet, and give people a partial refund.

I hope his voice lasts through the tour. I can't imagine performing for 2 and a half hours at 72, and especially all those high notes. Bronchitis is no joke, either.

I think the residency idea may have been a bad idea in hindsight now. Sounds like just a few days off in between shows is just not enough now. It's also possible the setlist may just need to be reworked to have less vocal straining songs, or like you guys said limit the meet and greets.

They need to bring back the soup from the Vapor Trails tour. That will keep 'em healthy and fit.

They just posted a video on FB with Alex.  It looks like they did a soundcheck and Geddy was just way too rough to perform.

 

Apparently for the meet and greets they give people hand sanitizer and tell them that any contact, including a fist bump must be initiated by the band.  There are like 40 people doing the meet and greets per show.  With all the people they are around during the tour I doubt nixing the meet and greets would make a dent.

We drove an hour and 20 minutes to Fort Worth and were at dinner when the reschedule notification came.

 

There were a guy and his wife coming out of the restaurant when we were, and they live in the area but will be out of town for the rescheduled shows.

Guys…..it’s not the singing that gave him bronchitis. That is an infection in his lungs. It happens. 
 

He is taking a very strong round of antibiotics and it will get knocked out and he will be fine. 
 

Singing Freewill does not cause a bronchial infection lol.

 

I already rescheduled my flight and hotel from July 3rd to the 13th and fortunately it costed me nothing more to do. I truly feel for anyone who is unable to reschedule that is not local. 
 

They will be back……and the set lists will remain the same I am sure.

Not to mention the inflammation caused by bronchitis can increase the risk of pneumonia, which is no joke at Geddy's age. I deal with chronic bronchitis so I know all too well the importance antibiotics and rest, and I'm only in my thirties. Geddy will be fine.

Sucks, especially when they have been troopers their whole touring career. Yes things do happen. Let's hope that they can get back on track. I'm sure frustrating for them too.
