RUSH 1968 Fotor Sisi Agent, retouched

Posted (edited)

Welcome to the Rush Forum!  Great to see you !    But dang, what kind of strange AI photo is this?  Geddy looks more like Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes!  I'm open to other interpretations, but I've been working with photo editing and Rush (not together) since the 1970s and this photo is off.

Deep fake technology is getting scarily good, but I think we'd have seen a photo of that quality before now.

So f**king tired of fake-ass AI slop showing up everywhere now.

WYman, if you found it and didn’t know it was fake, no harm no foul I guess…we’ve all been fooled by something that was AI by this point.

If you knew (or suspected) and didn’t care, that’s not a good look. My vote would be to take the post down…

As a side note;

Not many teenagers opt to undergo elective nose enlargement surgery right after they join a band.

Yes, it's obviously AI. I found the original image online, which I post here. If you compare the original with the AI version side by side, I think the AI is quite accurate in detail to the original, but too "pretty" and overprocessed.

That is a cool photo though 😎

Maybe, but I'm still not buying it. Looks like a biopic prototype.

I'm not totally convinced that one is real either or if it is it is probably from 1972 or 73.

I saw RUSH at the Verizon Amphitheatre, California, May 11, 2008, on the Snakes and Arrows tour. When Rush came onstage and Alex and Geddy were plugging in their guitars, Geddy spoke to Alex saying, "John's gone." He meant it for Alex to hear but the microphone picked it up. The crowd was beginning to roar, and I wasn't sure that was what Geddy said but it sounded like it. I asked my friend what Geddy said and he shrugged his shoulders. He couldn't even hear what I was asking him. Anyway, when I got home, I got online and looked up RUSH and the news had just been announced, that John Rutsey had died. He died of a heart attack in his sleep. Rest In Peace John.

That seems like an odd way for them to hit the stage, at least on the S & A Tour. Maybe I’m not visualizing what you’re saying properly given I think it was an outdoor venue?

Yes, the Verizon was an outdoor venue. This was within 3 or 5 seconds of their coming on stage, and I guess Geddy and Alex had been travelling separately, so Geddy was informing Alex of the news he had just been given. I later watched a couple of videos of that show, hoping to see the opening moment again. But, the beginning of those videos don't start until a moment later. Maybe some more recent videos have been posted showing it.

The "original" isn't an original either....

Are you taking the piss?

"Taking the piss"? Huh?

Did you mean to ask if I took the pics?

-no-

Ha ha...'taking the piss' is a British slang phrase meaning 'are you effing with me'.

Photographic evidence that I have seen depicts Alex with long hair in 1972 or 1973.
