I guess my only criticism, not musically but culturally, was to choose a song from the first album and not show at least one screen shot of Mr. Rutsey. I have watched it countless times and I don't see a single slide of a wild haired, necklaced smiley face in any of the historical pics.

Yes, I was also looking for just a screen shot of our lost John.

Well that caught me by surprise! Incredibly brave song for Geddy to attempt to pull off in front of an audience of millions
Good choice to ease Anika into the fold though. Again fair play to her agreeing to being revealed in such a high profile fashion

Challenging as it was, a great choice of song for many reasons

I thought it was a great choice for many obvious reasons but I guess  I overthought that because Uncle Cliff's likely response of " first song first album" just nailed the simplicity of the moment. That was just the perfect song which can be interpreted in so many different ways and none of them are wrong. Talk about celebrating the moment!  That was a gift beyond price.

Geddy's voice is barely okay compared to the last time we heard it, but it's not good at all, especially compared to his heyday. You people are listening with your hearts instead of your ears. The rest of it was awesome.

I don't think he was 72 back then. Did see the "evil Geddy" face a lot more than usual however.

For a SEVENTY TWO year old Geddy Lee to be able to still sing Finding My Way in it's ORIGINAL f***ing KEY is a feat that can only be described as otherworldly. Seriously they sound so unbelieveably tight and almost like they never went away. I also love the fact that Ged is starting to incorporate more of that slapping and popping type of bass playing that had been missing since since the GUP/Power Windows era, really makes me wonder if this new tour is going to incorporate more songs from that era. God I f***ing hope....

And he played the sea bass again!  I want to see that one on the tour!

He seems love that Seafoam Green ‘62 Jazz Bass so much that it’s become the de facto number 1 post-R40 appearances. I’m curious to see if he’ll bring out that bass showcase on the upcoming tour also.

That has become my favorite bass for him to use. I love it!. I'm not sure I care what what they play as long as it's with that bass!

Same thought here. It annoyed me a little.

I sort of agree with this, but he'd already been history as a member of the band before the first major label tour.  His involvement generally is still allocated to the prehistory of the band (which generally doesn't get spoken about much) and his work on the record outlived his presence in the band. He just wasn't there then much beyond the actual launch.  It's fans like us that keep that memory alive more than the band which even back in the '80s wasn't really in their thoughts much as a musical contributor to their career became.

But yeah, a footnote is still a footnote.

One can't help but wonder if the video was prepared independently of the song as exclusively a "Neil Tribute" before they even decided on Finding My Way. I agree though. Since John has also passed and it was a song from the first album, surely a clip or two from the Laura Secord days could have found its way (no pun intended) into the video.

Geddy says here that it was management who pitched the "first album, first song" thing, so perhaps Finding My Way was a fairly last minute decision rather than one of the standards.

Perhaps.

Oddly enough, I was hoping for a Neil doing the PeteTownshend windmill clip from the the Roll The Bones Tour medley If they do this song on the tour. I hope they find one. Even if it's a bootleg clip. That was the first thing that popped into my head at the time. Seeing him do that on the screen right behind Anika.

Sorry, I don't know who "Uncle Cliff" is.  I had an inkling that Ray was no longer involved...

I think Cliff is the long bearded part of the team that promoted the band in the very early days.

Cliff Burnstein was the guy who signed them for Mercury upon hearing Finding My Way in 1974.

He's now managing the 50 Something Tour as part of Q Prime, so it's appropriate he suggested the opening song :rush:

It was difficult to tell as the back screen wasn't visible the full time but I thought there were was a brief clip of the Laura Secord High School concert.

Anybody else notice Loren Gold's subtle backing vocals in the chorus? I hadn't picked up on it in the arena. I thought that sounded great. Good support for Geddy. I hope they use him in that capacity for many other tunes.

Yes and spot on.

I am impressed that Ged (at age 71) decided to sing Finding My Way in the original key and managed to reach those high notes.

There's a part of me though that thinks, he could have sang it an octave lower and it still would have been great I think.

Your point is well taken, but just as a technical note, a whole octave would be an unnecessary (and dramatic) over-correction—that’s a fairly big tonal gap.
What he could do is drop it a step (semitone, in UK) or even a half-step, i.e., singing it in D flat instead of D.

That would help him avoid that “yelping” delivery he sometimes goes into, where consonants get kinda muted and his articulation suffers.

I’d rather hear a slightly-lower Geddy than  a 72-year old trying to replicate his 20-year-old shriek.

I'd be totally okay hearing "new parts," as well - even Freddie Mercury did that for shows, even when he was full strength.  These guys are such killer musicians, and they obviously still have it where it counts there - but there are times when Lee sounds a bit like he's being strangled, and it's kind of distracting.  But I know the roar of the crowd will say otherwise when they're on stage.  I hope everyone who is going has a great time!  It would be great if they could get the "periscope" thing set up again - but I guess that app was shut down.
