treeduck Posted March 1 Posted March 1 The first and most important question to ask her is does she love hard rock and heavy metal above anything else!
rugen Posted Monday at 09:28 AM Author Posted Monday at 09:28 AM If you read the interview, you can clearly see that her first love is rock and progressive music. I don't see the connection between prog metal and Rush. So hard rock is not her first love
PurpleHayes Posted Monday at 02:36 PM Posted Monday at 02:36 PM Just to honor her, they should rename the band 'Mach Schnell.'
JARG Posted Monday at 03:13 PM Posted Monday at 03:13 PM Neil was very specific about his sound and how to achieve it. How is that for you? “I have a very clear idea about my own sound and know how to create it. I'm certainly not going to change that, even with Rush. His snare drum sound, his ride sound, and his hi-hat sound are so recognizable, so very Neil.” That's a fairly bold stance. What would it be like if they had to replace Alex and the replacement guitarist said, "I have my own sound, and I'm not going to change it". Or is she saying that outside of Rush, her sound will remain her sound?

If they wanted a Peart clone, there are countless ones to choose - guys in tribute bands with Paragon cymbals and $1000 R40 signature snare drums. To me, if you wanna hear Rush with Peart on drums, your options are endless. I'm excited to hear something new - particularly because Peart's drum sound had been in decline since around '95....
Todem Posted Monday at 04:35 PM Posted Monday at 04:35 PM She is going to slay it. No doubt in my mind. 2

Funny.....when he worked with Freddy.....I respected all the reasons and the "why". But I much prefer Neil circa 1978-1993 Absolute prime. I agree with you sonically he changed starting with T4E and of course his "swing" changed a lot. The concise tight playing and composition of his drum parts went in a different direction. Again I respect it...and he still wrote many great compositional fills and grooves from T4E onward......but personal taste for me is Neil on Hemispheres thru the incredible 80's progressive climb and very early 90's up to Counterparts. I can also say that about Alex and Geddy as well......it was their prime as players, composers and their sonic exploration. 1

Yes, the sound of his drums really started to decline, but from the videos I've of seen of Anika, I'm not thrilled with the sound of her kit either if it's going to be used for Rush songs. She's got a great sounding kit for fusion and a lighter touch, but in Rush she'll be playing hard rock. She says she's already adjusted her playing style to account for that, but I wonder if her kit is going to sound good without some tweaking. Edited Monday at 07:39 PM by JARG

Why not use the 500,00$ drum kit of Neil before he gets sold at auction...
