If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.

Its only really noteworthy when the original was broken. I'm happy enough with Signals as is. A remixed version of Clockwork Angels or Presto on the other hand....

I think that's Alex mistaking remaster for remix...he seemed to be talking in the past tense about the box that's been released, not some hidden away remix that Terry did.  I'd love to be wrong.

I find it more interesting that around the 20:48 mark the interviewer mentions Red Lenses and Geddy very quickly says "we were just talking about that song the other day" and then goes right into talking about there being a keyboard player for this tour.

Are we going to hear Red Lenses live?!

I'm sure the Terry Brow remixes will be great, but they won't compare to the Terry Brown mixes.

I’d love to hear the mix in mono, but that would have to be done by his cousin, Terry Unibrow.

Yes a clean up of the muddy low end rumble of Clockwork would be great.

The look on Geddy's face and the quick edit right after Alex mentions Signals betrays a continued, if silent, disagreement between the two about the overall quality of certain albums, which I don't believe I'd believe had it not been for the Beyond the Lighted Stage doc that so explicitly portrays this issue having come to a head.

I recall an interview with Geddy during press for Power Windows wherein he states his sense that while Signals pushed the guitar to the background too much, that g/p featured it making a screaming comeback, and his ultimate feeling that Power Windows had finally got the mix between keys & guitars right.

As a fan, the first album I had issues with was Presto, and there's no small irony that it was this album that was supposed to have put them back on track, at least as far as Alex had been concerned. Now, having listened to the rough cut/demos, which I find superior to the actual album, I think it has as much to do with production as what I thought at that time - that it was just the songs I didn't like.

At any rate, all this to say I don't think in retrospect that either band member's preference would be the one I'd prefer because, in retrospect, I still love Signals and g/p, and now think Power Windows went way too hard with the keys, even though it doesn't bother me. Still, in my opinion the overall sound of several albums since has suffered a great deal from not having a unified presence to nix what individual band members may have preferred. I suspect there were compromises that compromised the songs and sound.

The soft production sound of Presto is part of the problem, but you're right that the songs themselves, with the exception of Show Don't Tell, have much simpler arrangements than what we'd come to expect from Rush. This started on HYF, where the 'noodling around' that pervades earlier Rush albums has been curtailed to short snippets within songs. The arrangements of the songs on Presto are even simpler and a bit bland...even though there are 4-5 songs I really like...it doesn't compare to Moving Pictures, y'know.

I think it's become clear over the years that Geddy became the dominating voice in the studio, even over the voice of whatever producer they were using. Alex is a laid-back, go-along-to-get-along kind of guy, and didn't make a big deal about the guitars until the late 90s...and Geddy acted shocked.

Are we going to hear Red Lenses live?!

That would be an easy win: vocals within Ged's current range and no challenging guitar solo.

I think it's possible. It would be fantastic if we did.

I think its more the case that the remix was indeed done -- Terry himself confirms this, after all -- and Al just forgets that it has not yet been made available to the general public.

It's  also possible Alex may have forgotten about Signals already.
