Flame Posted January 23 Posted January 23 (edited) This will probably go over like a fart in church with this crowd, but…I’d very much welcome a Rush record with Nilles as a full songwriting contributor—not “just” percussion, even; my understanding is that she’s an accomplished songwriter in her own right. Absolutely nothing at all against The Professor, so don’t invent a stinging indictment out of this, but, Peart kinda wore out the “deep philosophical musings couched in imagery of humans and their emotions being electric/magnetic/subatomic interactions” groove a little bit, in my opinion. I loved it—it was an integral part of what Rush was—but…he did it for 40 years, and it got a bit repetitive to me. (Especially in a band whose calling card was the creative freedom to continually re-invent itself.) I’m plenty ready for a breath of fresh (lyrical) air from Rush, particularly if Anika is inclined/encouraged to write some. Not to mention Geddy and Alex have been off the songwriting train for a while now and are bound to have some interesting new influences and evolutions going on. Seeing what they could come up with outside of the giant shadow of Neil’s influence would be fascinating. Edited January 23 by Flame 3

HemiBeers Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I got a post from the Kicking Harold guy (who's pretty credible) predicting an album before the tour. Gotta admit, there's quite a bit of time between the tour announcement and the actual tour. I don't think they would need all that time for tour prep. It does seem odd that they would just do a greatest hits tour for the hell of it. Just not their style. We'll see. 1

What makes you say that? Hits/anniversary tours have been part of their rotation since their initial return with Vapor Trails. I don't see it as too unusual for them, especially after such a long break. - Album/Tour Cycle (Vapor Trails) - R30 Anniversary Tour - Album/Tour Cycle (Snakes & Arrows) - Time Machine Tour - Album/Tour Cycle (Clockwork Angels) - R40 Anniversary Tour I suppose one could make the argument that they put out Feedback for R30 and Caravan/BU2B ahead of Time Machine, but those were largely celebratory/anniversary driven tours. I'm certainly not ruling out an eventual album or even a new single to promote the tour, but I expect the main goal right now is getting the setlist grooving. 1

The circumstances around this tour are not normal though, they have literally been an ex-band for the past decade. One of the main reasons for the tour is to pay tribute to Neil and his work, I don't see new material getting considered at all beforehand.

I know, I know...we all knew it was probably the last one, and it was an anniversary tour. But still, there was no new material released before it. 1
