For real. She's in the same category as Mike Portnoy. What did she do to get voted on over him this year? Most of us had no clue about her before she joined Geddy and Alex.

I don't think it's that deep. Brandon Toews (the main drummer on the Drumeo channel) is a huge Rush fan and a huge Anika fan. She's had a career long before the announcement, and has often appeared on Drumeo over the years. Ultimately, it's just a fan poll to promote their contest. She's been sharing it on her socials, and so I thought I'd share here.

I gave her my 5 votes for Drummer of the Year, plus gave 5 votes each to Mike Portnoy (recorded perf), and Craig Blundell (Prog Rock).

Why? 

See how she does with the band and then decide on it for next year. 

It's not that she's not a great drummer - I just don't agree that she should get points from the Rush crowd before she's done the job.   I'd say this even if the drummer was someone else.

That's why basically any poll of singers, guitarists, drummers, etc is pointless because people generally vote for members in their favorite band. If you want a poll for the best whatever, only let other musicians or singers vote because they know how basic or skilled a person is at their instrument.

I'll wait until next year to vote, if she on the ballet for drummer of the year again. 

 

Like some of us said we never heard of her until she landed the gig I know I've never heard of her before.
