This is hard, because Available Light is the only one that doesn't quite do it for me like the rest of the songs on this list.

1) Cut to the Chase

 

A song that would probably be easy enough for Geddy these days, and a nice energetic tune for the set. By all accounts, Alex's impressive solo was an improvised take that was left alone, so it would be a good spot for him to just let it rip each night in whichever capacity he feels. Let's be honest - it's not like he ever played the speedy section of Freewill the same every night anyway.

 

2) Everyday Glory

 

Similar to the above regarding Geddy, and a song I feel took on some new life after the Time Stand Still documentary.

 

3) Different Strings

 

A song that might actually be in the discussion with a dedicated piano player. Arguably it might be a bit too somber for a Rush show, but hey, who would have thought Losing It would ever be played live?

I honestly didn't think 'Chain Lightning ' would be running last in this poll - I thought it was well-liked on this forum!

Idk.  I think alternating Presto and Available Light would be a good.  For me, lyrically, these two truly reveal Neil’s authenticate feelings.

 

I equate the opening verse in Presto to the “I can’t pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend” line in Limelight.  The Limelight line spoke of fame.  The opening Presto verse shares a frustrating of being an introvert.  I am connected to the universe and nature yet I choose to hide and not engage.  I could go on about how I feel Presto is lyrically just the inner frustrations of an introvert, but I digress.

 

Available Light is similar to Presto but comes from a different perspective of the introvert. In my experience, the introvert doesn’t always choose isolation.  Quite often, we are most comfortable in that space.  It’s our go-to.  Our fallback.  It doesn’t mean that we don’t ever want to chase the sun around the world.  That’s the beauty of Available Light.  For me, it expresses those moments of being  introverted when one questions why one is an introvert.

 

for me, these two are two of the most personal lyrics Neil ever wrote and that’s why they should be included in some way.

I am also going to go out on a limb here and think that all or an instrumental version of  “Return Of The Prince” would be epic way to end the 1st set.  (A) it’s rarely been played so people will lose their mind.  (B) include the narration by Neil as part of his celebration (maybe they can alter the narration by taking out the effects and just having it narrated in Neil’s true voice) (C) it’s always been the best song on the album - for me anyway.  

Idk.  I think it would be cool.
