So the guys announced that they will have additional musicians on stage with them on this tour. What do you believe these musicians will be playing?

The obvious is a keyboardist. I'm feeling they will not use triggers on this tours and allow the keyboardist to cover that.

They've already had a guest violinist, so that's not much of a stretch.

I also believe they might bring along a Percussionist to cover the Tubular Bells and the Xylophone unless Anika can play them. Don't Know?

Other than that, Maybe a backup vocalist to cover backup Vocals? What do you guys think?

I truly believe that we will see John Wesley on stage with them handling secondary guitar work as well as added vocals

He is friends with the guys and is a phenomenal musician (see Porcupine Tree live as examples of guitar work and vocals)
He is the guy for this tour

And I believe they already mentioned a keyboardist by name in the same way Geddy originally mentioned Anika

Also Anika while in my opinion not having an electronic kit or that old school percussion will certainly have an advanced drum kit with triggers, cowbells and electronic pads and added drums as she does need to do her own thing but also stay faithful to certain parts and elements that Neil created. Everything really depends on the song selection. I don't see mystic rhythms or red sector A being played but so many songs require specific sounds that Neil created

Still see the drum solo taking place after an instrumental as Geddy announces "Ladies and Gentlemen, The Professor on the Drum Kit" and the lights go dark and the video of Neil playing a solo is shown on the screens.

Ok enough out of me

Wouldn't John Wesley be busy with Voyage 35 next year?

I absolutely do not see this happening and think it would be really mean to Anika lol

It's the ultimate tribute to Neil and gives everyone a break as well
There is no way that there will be a drum solo slot taken by Anika
Who knows
We shall see

Why not?

She's a composer, she's written a ton of material and can clearly hold her own. She's really good! She can't get three minutes for a little piece she put together for the tour?

Guest Keyboardist pretty much. Maybe that same keyboardist can provide some underlying backup vocals but I think we get triggered background vocals.

That’s it IMO.

We will find out soon enough.

I'm guessing a Ramy Jaffee-type from Foo Fighters. A multi-instrumentalist who mainly does keyboards but can chip in with another skill when needed.

I said it in another thread - I think they are going to go for a Who style backup band.

I would find that hugely disappointing. If I want to watch a video of NP playing a solo, I know where to go for that. I'd much rather see a live drum solo from Anika.

The thought came to me after my reply, but I also did not pay what I paid to watch 5-8 minutes of a Neil Peart drum solo on a video screen, I'd be so bothered by that lol. Instant bathroom break and I don't think I'd be alone.

Everyone's ideas for how they'll pay tribute to Neil are so on the nose and very few seem plausible. I think people forget that we all have a greater reverence for the body of Rush's work than the band themselves ever has; they've always been about moving forward, embracing new things, etc. I've been listening to a ton of old radio shows they've done and forgot this about them, but I appreciate it so much.

Neil will be in montages and stuff like that, but my guess is their tributes will be subtle. After all, who wrote all the words to all the songs? The whole show is inherently a tribute. Simply playing a handful of songs Neil was really attached to could be their definition of a "tribute," and that'd be a-okay with me.

Agree wholeheartedly with you. We may see an old intro video montage with Neil, play a few select songs with Neil montages on the rear screen (think Ghost Rider and The Garden).

I don’t think it will be cheesy or contrived.

And yeah the entire setlist is a tribute. He wrote all the lyrics sans Working Man or anything from the debut.

Can’t get behind that at all.

This is Rush. Everyone is severely underestimating that Alex and Geddy will be on top of their game by opening night and are gonna sound ridiculous good….as good as R40 IMO.

Will we see 90’s live Rush (think CP and T4E tour) no. But Snakes and Arrows live level is easily attainable for these two legends at their age. I have zero doubts.

R40 they absolutely sizzled both times I saw them. And I am specifically speaking about Geddy and Alex…..Annika is going to add such a massive youthful burst of energy to the music. I can only imagine how giddy they were after the jam sessions with her and how excited they were to announce the tour.

It was that spark that brought this all about a decade after they hung it up.

I am incredibly excited.

I believe Geddy did mention a tribute to Neil in the original tour announcement video. I don't think it will be a video of a solo but a montage of his career. I expect that a lot of will be of him smiling and having fun with Geddy and Alex. I don't believe that they will try and intentionally go for a tear jerking tribute. I think it will be a fun one with the intention of getting fans to happily remember him.

With today's technology, I'm sure there could be a way for Anika and Neil to have a "drum duet" but that would unfortunately cause HUGE amounts of Gen Z outrage and the cancel hammer being brought down on Ged and Al.

I don't think it will cause outrage and I believe that duet will happen just like Genesis would do.

If they use any sort of "computer assistance" to have a digital avatar of Neil perform alongside Anika, you'll see how quick the cancel hammer will be wielded.

I Would figure sections at a time his past solos on the screen then she takes a turn with a response of her own and back and forth.

No one saying she can't have her own drum Solo as well. But it would be a nice touch to watch Neil do his thing one more time say while everyone has gone off stage prior to the Encore!

But Geddy already announced on the 1st video released that they are going to have additional musicians on stage with them. He specifically mentioned dragging along a keyboardist so he could get around stage more!

Yeah I agree, I believe they'll show videos of them all messing around and just goofing off! Prior to the Opening of the Second set would be nice!
