TheAnarchist2112 Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Never thought I'd be able to write this, but here we are!! We already have 1 song confirmed, which is Tom Sawyer. Ged and Al said that they've been rehearsing about 35 songs, so that leaves us with 34 left. Here's my predictions for the songs that they'll play: Working Man Anthem 2112 Overture 2112 Temples 2112 Finale Closer To The Heart Xanadu La Villa Strangiato The Spirit of Radio Natural Science Jacob's Ladder Tom Sawyer Red Barchetta YYZ Limelight The Camera Eye Subdivisions Digital Man Distant Early Warning Between The Wheels The Big Money Mission The Pass Roll The Bones Bravado Dreamline Animate Leave That Thing Alone Resist One Little Victory Ghost Rider Far Cry Workin Them Angels Clockwork Angels Headlong Flight what do you guys think? I'm super excited, I never had the chance to see them before because I was WAYYY too young at the time of R40, and I never thought in a million years this would happen! I can't wait to see them! Rush Rules!! :)))) 1
Fridge Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Err.....in the video they clearly state the show will be nearer two hours rather than three, so they are not squeezing all that in.....plus, do you really think Geddy can still make a fist of singing a lot of them?......the man himself said he "couldn't sing Rush songs anymore" in an interview a couple of years ago....it's a mystery to me how they are going to solve that thorny little problem unless they draft in vocal help. 2
Brava Doh! Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Two different shows in each city means a core set of songs each night and then some of the rest in night one, some of the rest on night two. i would also suggest that a few of the 35 may fall by the wayside as they finalize their set. So I would say two set lists need to be guessed at, each with core songs and what you suspect will be built around them. 2
grep Posted October 7 Posted October 7 I would be very surprised if they didn't find a way to work in FBN and AF2K .
napoleonj Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Heavy on instrumentals for this one. In fact, I think it would be safe to assume every instrumental they ever did would be represented here. 1

J2112YYZ Posted October 7 Posted October 7 I really can't pick anything because I know nothing about the new drummer and what songs she could play really well. I also have no clue the state of Geddy's voice and what he could sing decent enough these days. 1

New_World_Man Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Do I need to continue? ;) Edited October 7 by New_World_Man I added another blah.
chemistry1973 Posted October 7 Posted October 7 I think we will get a lot of GuP. Afterimage most definitely. Kid Gloves maybe. also: available light and cut to the chase 2
thizzellewashington Posted October 7 Posted October 7 I'm going to attempt to do something I never managed to do for any of the Rush tours I saw (every tour starting with R30): not read anything ahead of time about the setlist or the show and go in blind. There are plenty of Rush songs I don't like but none of them are anything I think they'll play (I can't imagine "Tai Shan" or "Dog Years" is high on the priority list) so I'll be happy with whatever they do.
HemiBeers Posted October 7 Posted October 7 They'll play the easiest songs for Alex to solo and the easiest for Geddy to sing. 3
thizzellewashington Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Just now, HemiBeers said: They'll play the easiest songs for Alex to solo and the easiest for Geddy to sing. As someone whose favorite period of Rush is the mid-80s I'm not mad at this at all. The 70s stuff was tough for Geddy to do 10 years ago. 1

XanaD.E.W. Posted October 7 Posted October 7 In my head, I can already hear Annika doing a really cool groove to the jazzy/fusion middle section of Freewill. I can also hear them doing more groove oriented songs such as Stick it Out or Armor & Sword for her to really lay down a deep pocket. But then again, I'd think she would slay it in a song like Earthshine and/or Driven with all that tricky time signature changes too. 1
grep Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Would be cool if they worked in an R50 Overture. That could cover a lot of ground for harder to sing songs. 1

Second Hand Grace Posted October 7 Posted October 7 As long as they play Rivendell, Tai Shan, Tears and Limbo, i'll be happy. 1
JARG Posted October 7 Posted October 7 My fear is that the set list will favor more recent material than older.
TexMike Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) I have a feeling this will be heavily weighted towards “greatest hits”. They know this will attract many fans who never got to see them with Neil and who will want to hear songs they know from radio or compilations. Plus it sounds like this will be a shorter set than we’re used to from them, so I wouldn’t expect many long epics. Spirit, Subdivisions, Closer, Sawyer, Barchetta, YYZ, Trees, Temples, Working Man, Red Sector are probably all guarantees and that may be half the set already. The rest will probably be dictated by Geddy’s range and Alex’s dexterity at this point. Edited October 7 by TexMike 2
