I'm going to propose something. It may stretch forum rules, so hoping admin will hear me out. We all know how the shark infested waters known as ticketmaster has become. Unpredictable 'presales', unrealistic markups, etc. I know the presale will be likely in groups of 2. Since my wife, relatives, etc. have no interest in Rush, I always go by myself. Here's the deal...if I get 2 tickets, I would like to offer one of them to a forum member at my cost. Not sure of how the mechanics of this would work, but we're all 'family' in a sense and I have reasonable trust that I wouldn't get ripped off by a forum member. If no one on the forum wants my extra ticket, it gets tossed back into the shark infested waters. I'm going to one of the chicago shows and prefer middle floor section. When, or if, I'm able to get reasonable seats, I'll post a thread on the forum and we can take it from there.

On one of the previous Rush tours, I resold my extra ticket on ticketmaster at a handsome profit. It basically paid for my ticket. I admit...probably a dickish thing to do. But the guy who bought the ticket next to me came 2-3 songs into the set, was late after intermission and was diddling on his phone alot of the time. Dude, why the f**k did you pay that much just to be disinterested? We didn't have any conversation and I wanted to keep it that way; 'oh yeah, I'm the guy that screwed you on your ticket...thanks!'. So hoping to make amends for my past sins.

The forums members have been keeping the fire burning, so hopefully we can help each other enjoy this last go without breaking the bank.

Any reason to cut Ticketbastard out of it is cool with us. The only question is -- and you don't have to answer this out here yet -- is how would you pick which TRFer to gift the ticket to?

Initial thoughts:

I don't love using the name "Rush" without Neil but I would imagine the promoters/management probably pushed them to do that because it would be easier to sell tickets with the name.

LOVE the choice of Anika Nilles. She's a killer drummer who plays a lot of odd-time stuff and will be able to handle the material just fine and bring her own style to it. I like that choice a lot better than just plugging in someone obvious like Mike Portnoy or Danny Carey.

I think using extra musicians is a good move. With Neil gone it's less important to protect the "sanctity" of the three-piece and at these guys' ages they probably need the help anyway.

I'm going to go.

I never thought I’d have the chance to see them again. The R40 tour was my first ever concert.  Dad and I drove down to the United center from Wisconsin and stood in the very back row at the far end of the arena. It’s still the greatest concert I’ve ever been to. I don’t really know how we would be able to afford a pair of tickets right now, and frankly I don’t know if I’ll be home in Indiana or still here in DC next summer. But if there’s one more chance for Dad and me to see our favorite band again, I want to take it.

I’m so happy they included the statement from Neil’s family.

Agreed.

2 of the greatest drummers I know of, Danny Carey and Omar Hakim, flubbed YYZ. It was a joy to watch, but the performances weren’t that tight.

Anika is a compositional drummer like NP. Extremely musical.

Omar is wrong for Rush because he is so groove oriented. Danny is wrong because he - well doesn’t remember parts well haha.

Hopefully they will extend this across the Atlantic.

I mean the drummer is from Germany for starters.

Also Al & Ged seemed to have been bummed that R40 never went beyond North America.

🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

They are testing the water with these initial dates. I’m sure they’ll add a Euro leg if tix are strong.

Excuse me while I remove my foot from my mouth. I was one of the "Rush is done touring" crowd. I'm shocked, and my 19 year old daughter is beside herself with excitement at the prospect.

I wholeheartedly agree...and I'll add Mike Portnoy to your list.

Portnoy is an amazing drummer, but he kinda sucks playing Rush for some reason; he doesn't know the fills intimately, and for some reason sounds very stiff when only playing Rush; he doesn't sound so forced playing ANYTHING else.  It's very odd.  He lacks finesse and dynamics...buy again, seemingly ONLY on Rush material.  When I watch him play with YYNOT, he just sounds off...very off.

Now who DOES nail Neil is someone rarely talked about...Jason Bittner.  He gets ALL the intricacies just right.  He is a metal drummer, but he nails Neil just about better than ANY drummer I've seen, and he isn't even playing on his OWN kit!

Excited for this. I was 13 the last time I saw Rush, and I was bummed that I never got to see them play one more time. Obviously it will not be the same without Neil, but i think it’s being handled as delicately and respectfully as possible, and I can get behind it. I’m not familiar with Anika Niles, but all the good news and posts about her makes me feel good that she will do just fine.

One thing I think hasn’t been posted yet. According to Wikipedia, Anika Niles is literally a professor of drumming at a music conservatory and also works at Drumeo. So not THE Professor, but Geddy and Alex have at least made sure A professor is on the throne!

I'm glad that it's a limited tour and I'm guessing the set list will be shorter and sort of tame...only the easier tunes that they can handle. I would even like to see YYNOT as their opening act. They've been keeping the music going for a while.

But no one should see this as a 'f**k you neil' tour. It's sad that he's no longer here, but it's been quite a few years.

it looks like the shows are starting at 7:30, from what I've seen, so they'll probably be the regular 2 set concerts

Not sure how I feel about this
Major news

Still processing
Will be great to hear the music again and most likely a very different setlist as Neil wasn't a huge fan of the older music

As far as Anika
I have watched her vids over the years. Definitely a very talented drummer
I guess I was hoping for someone more in the "scene". A "Name" to really sell it
I don't know. My first thought was Marco Minneman or Gavin Harrison

But who I truly thought would be drumming for them before I watched the video and read the news release and who I was excited for was Matt Cameron

I thought with him leaving PJ that it might be for a short tour with Geddy and Alex considering the friendship and past work relationships

of course this is all selfishness on my part and means absolutely dick because what G&A felt is what is important
i will most likely be in Chicago. Just not as excited as I had hoped as I still miss Neil
But Rush existed before Neil and exists afterwards

just like everything else

Goes on and on

I'm probably going to one of the chicago shows. I was too young to go to R40, and I'm SO EXCITED to go!!!!!!

We're gonna' try. I'm worried tickets will sell out in minutes. I told her "nosebleed seats are better than no seats".

We're looking at either a Ft. Worth or a Chicago show. The draw for her is Rush, the draw for me is, respectively, BBQ or Pizza.

Bittner is the most relaxed-looking-while-playing-Peart drummers I've seen. He makes it look easy.
