Question for Drummers

My son Kieran wants a drum kit for Christmas, and after a trip to our local music shop, I have two "entry level" kits in mind.

There's a "Stagg" kit and a "Pearl" kit.

The Pearl kit is smaller (assistant says it's a Jazz kit, if that makes sense), and as I've heard of the brand before, I'm drawn towards it. However, the guy in the shop reckons the Stagg kit is better made.

We have very limited room in the garage where Kieran will be practicing, so a smaller footprint (if that's the right term) is attractive. Both are the same price, so money is not the deciding factor.

Any observations?

I'd be drawn towards the Pearl also, simply because I have heard of them and have never heard of Stagg. If the guy in the shop thinks it's better made, though (and you are sure he's saying that sincerely and not just to make a sale), then the Stagg may indeed be the better choice. I have heard from other folks that Taye and Sonor also make good starter kits.
