ST3V Posted July 8, 2025 Posted July 8, 2025 Just a curious thought that came over me. Reply if your choice isnt on the poll
BastillePark Posted July 8, 2025 Posted July 8, 2025 I believe a good argument for What You're Doing as the heaviest song could be made. 3

It's interesting that no songs from AFTK through RTB are included, and that makes sense if we're talking about heavy. Circumstances might be the only exception, and it wouldn't be out of place on this list. 2

Sure there are heavy songs, but do they really matchup to the likes of Vapor Trails or Clockwork Angels?

I'm saying I agree with your list -- that whole middle span from AFTK thru RTB is devoid of the heaviness than we hear on the earlier and later albums. Circumstances is the only one I can think of that could have been included. 1

It's kinda heavy, but not in a convincing way. 2
Relayer2112 Posted July 11, 2025 Posted July 11, 2025 I think the heaviest Rush ever got was their small tribute to Holst's "The Planets" right before the final outro vocal of "Jacob's Ladder". As far as a full song goes, I think Cygnus X1 is pretty damn heavy.
pjbear05 Posted July 11, 2025 Posted July 11, 2025 Other, I believe due to one's individual life experiences. In my case two songs in particular stand out. Subdivisions and Distant Early Warning. The former as a memory of junior high and early high school (definitely as one of those being "cast out"), the latter as a caution against all the situations conspiring against you ("but I worry about you"). 3

To be honest I was talking about heavy as in heavy rock, the type of music, but heavy as in emotionally heavy is another good topic 1

In the latter years, while the lyrics havent aged well, I thought Virtuality had a very heavy listen when I first heard it... 1

Texas King Posted August 16, 2025 Posted August 16, 2025 I'm going with The Necromancer: Under the Shadow, it's pretty heavy metal for its time, if you ask me.
treeduck Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 The one that features DIO and Eddie Van Halen on drums, Spanish Fly by Night People!
