I believe a good argument for What You're Doing as the heaviest song could be made.

It's interesting that no songs from AFTK through RTB are included, and that makes sense if we're talking about heavy. Circumstances might be the only exception, and it wouldn't be out of place on this list.

which songs would you say deserve a place up here? Sure there are heavy songs, but do they really matchup to the likes of Vapor Trails or Clockwork Angels?

I'm saying I agree with your list -- that whole middle span from AFTK thru RTB is devoid of the heaviness than we hear on the earlier and later albums. Circumstances is the only one I can think of that could have been included.

I could see Anthem being on there, but you were right to leave off Dog Years. It's kinda heavy, but not in a convincing way.

I think the heaviest Rush ever got was their small tribute to Holst's "The Planets" right before the final outro vocal of "Jacob's Ladder".  As far as a full song goes, I think Cygnus X1 is pretty damn heavy.

Other, I believe due to one's individual life experiences.  In my case two songs in particular stand out. Subdivisions and Distant Early Warning.  The former as a memory of junior high and early high school (definitely as one of those being "cast out"), the latter as a caution against all the situations conspiring against you ("but I worry about you").

To be honest I was talking about heavy as in heavy rock, the type of music, but heavy as in emotionally heavy is another good topic

This is a fun topic.  In the latter years, while the lyrics havent aged well, I thought Virtuality had a very heavy listen when I first heard it...

Cygnus X-1 is my choice for the heaviest Rush tune.

I was looking for Circumstances on the list.
