Nova Carmina Posted Friday at 07:08 PM Posted Friday at 07:08 PM No Martin Barre, though, huh? Why not just call it "Ian Anderson cosplays as Jethro Tull"? 1

Yeah the band members are just random names at this point, and it's a different line-up on each subsequent album. The new song is good though and the new guitarist (Jack Black on his day off??) sounds pretty good too.
zepphead Posted Friday at 07:28 PM Posted Friday at 07:28 PM Pretty decent song by ........ Jethro Anderson, or maybe Ian Tull ..... but certainly not Jethro Tull. I wish he would just release stuff as The Ian Anderson Band. 2

toymaker Posted Friday at 07:59 PM Posted Friday at 07:59 PM Same lack of vocal melody as over the last several albums - the tendency for lines to use the same note over several words followed by a slight dip or rise - often bordering on spoken word. I respect that he's still making music as he approaches 80, but I miss the fire in his voice. I miss the chemistry of the classic line-ups, too. The guitarist is doing a serviceable job of sounding like Barre, but over all, this is Jethro Tull lite, once again. 1

The last JT album I bought was TAAB2 (by "Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson") - which I just couldn't warm up to. Sometimes I wonder if I'm getting too cynical. When I listen to this Curious Ruminant track, I'm trying to enjoy it but these thoughts keep interrupting - "that guy's doing a pretty decent job of sounding like Martin Barre"; "Anderson sounds like a tired old performance poet"; "those backing musicians are just playing along" . . . It seems I can't get my inner critic to shut the hell up. 2

I keep thinking it's not really a band, just poor old Ian and a bunch of musicians playing at being a Tull tribute act. 1 1

The band are pretty good - decent metal/progressive metal. The singer might put you off a bit - kinda half way between clean vocals and death vocals. But worth a listen. 1

I quite enjoyed them although for a death metal band there was quite a lot of brass on some tracks. Nonetheless it was an enjoyable listen.
