Holdyourfireal Posted October 29, 2024 Author Posted October 29, 2024 No idea what mastering this is...

BanterFromTheCosmos Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 (edited) Digital82 insisted on the GUP thread that the Atlantic set is not the 50th anniversary release they were referring to. Hopefully that is indeed correct and they're entirely different from each other. What's really weird is how quickly this will be available; either November 11th per the Backstage Club or this Friday according to the Rhino page. I would've been a little interested if hi-res download cards were included like the initial releases. Looks like those aren't here this time. At least people who missed out on the vinyl versions these last few years now have a chance to get them for non-scalper prices, so there's one positive, I suppose. zepphead Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 (edited) My whelmed has never been so far under. There's a couple of nice R50 t-shirts though! Edited October 30, 2024 by zepphead 1 1
bluefox4000 Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 WOW.........Gross, lol. kidding i don't hate these but this is a box that's never been so easy to save money on. Mick
BanterFromTheCosmos Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 I had a look at a reddit thread about the announcement and nearly poster there is excited for this box since they missed out on the initial vinyl reissues. Even though this set will make the LPs available again, I still think it's more of a cashgrab that anything else. If they wanted to make this box more enticing for hardcore fans, at least put Different Stages in there. That's been OOP for a very long time and has never been released on vinyl either, though technically, the Hammersmith '78 portion is available on the Kings deluxe in a different mix.
Timbale Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 Looks like they paid Hugh Syme to fire up his computer again. Not my favourite use of Rush resources when there's stuff in the vaults that they need to go through... 2
invisible airwave Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 Yay, one album will average out to the usual used cost at my local record store copies I've seen! I can do without Presto. Only Mercury album I don't have on vinyl is HYF which I can take or leave, warts (Tai) and all.

Different and vastly better mix, and also a complete show. DS disc 3 is a joke, the show that was released with the AFTK 40th box is WAY better in every way. 2

I haven't heard the DS version of the show in a while, but from what I remember, it was very bassy and congested. It'd be nice if they gave Sean Magee a shot at mastering the rest of the album, or maybe have Broon remix it like he did with the Hammersmith show.
Holdyourfireal Posted October 30, 2024 Author Posted October 30, 2024 Maybe they aren't re-releasing Different Stages because they intend to release the full Toronto 97 show along with video?

Yes, it was mixed in a very 90s style with exaggerated bass and treble and heavy compression. It sounds like ass. I'd like to see a DS remix as well, I literally never listen to that album because it sounds so bad. Especially once I discovered the Great Woods and Summer Skies bootleg, which is a soundboard from the T4E tour that sounds phenomenal. It's massively better than DS. 2

Agreed, Great Woods is a fantastic bootleg. Well worth downloading. 2

I gave that soundboard a listen last night and have to agree; it's a helluva lot better than DS. Can't believe missed out on it for that long. Kudos for the recommendation. 1
