Slime Posted October 22 Posted October 22 Some people say forgive and forget, but those people aren't sports fans What are the blown calls, missed infractions, bad referee decisions or other such tomfoolery that STILL get your goat, even years after the fact?? Bonus points if said blunder had an impact beyond just the one game 1
Slime Posted October 22 Author Posted October 22 Combat sports also welcome to the discussion Did the ref stop it too soon? Not soon enough? Judge's score card completely whack??
laughedatbytime Posted October 22 Posted October 22 Was going to post the Drew Pearson Hail Mary video but the NFL has it blocked. 1
laughedatbytime Posted October 22 Posted October 22 Not gonna say I minded this one, but still atrocious
Principled Man Posted October 22 Posted October 22 When NFL officials "let them play" all game long but then call ticky-tack penalties in the last two minutes. No team is safe from this unprofessional and hypocritical performance issue. Example: Packers v. Buccaneers. NFC Championship Game, 2020 Season: The officials "let them play" all game long. No ticky-tack penalties were called downfield.....until inside the last two minutes, when they called a ticky-tack penalty on the Packers' secondary, which enabled the Bucs to run out the clock.

I guess that's true now that Tom Brady is retired.

1-0-0-1-0-0-1 Posted October 23 Posted October 23 If I were a fan of the Minnesota Lynx, I'd be pretty sour about that foul call from two nights ago.
Principled Man Posted October 23 Posted October 23 The last few seconds of the 1972 Olympic men's basketball final. Munich, Germany. 1
edhunter Posted October 23 Posted October 23 The ticky tack moving screen called against UConn in the women’s national semifinal, which ensured Caitlin Clark would reach the final comes to mind. My FB feed has inundated with AI posts about Reggie Jackson sticking his hip out and breaking up a double play in the ‘78 World Series. Turns out Dodger fans are still pissy over that. I’ve had a lot of fun with that one. 1
Wandering Hermit Posted October 23 Posted October 23 A crucial, utterly fabricated "pass interference" call against Ben Leber during the Vikes-Saints NFCCG. The same game that the Saints had their bounty on Brett Favre and got away with cheap shots as well.
Wandering Hermit Posted October 23 Posted October 23 (edited) Refs taking away Howard Eisley's obvious 3-pointer in game 6 of Jazz-Bulls finals. Left his hand with 1 second left on shot clock. It wasn't even close. But the NBA was all about getting another title for Jordan. Later they gave Harper a bucket when time clearly had expired. Absolutely enraging. Still pissed to this day about that game and the flagrantly bad officiating directed against Utah. Tainted title. F MJ and the movie about him and his last game. Salty does not begin to describe my feelings about that game. Thanks for making me re-live this. Edited October 23 by Wandering Hermit
Wandering Hermit Posted October 23 Posted October 23 Vikes-Cowboys NFCCG in Minny: Drew Person pushed off against Nate Wright on the first ever Hail Mary that sent Cowboys to SB. No call.
Wandering Hermit Posted October 23 Posted October 23 Brett Hull's foot in crease when Dallas was gifted the Cup over the Sabres.
laughedatbytime Posted October 23 Posted October 23 The night I saw Rush in St.Paul...the Fail Mary that ended the replacement ref experiment.

I remember the Jordan pushoff to get space for his basket, but I don’t remember there being any uproar over the officiating. I was living out there at the time. I had tickets to games three and four of the 97 finals. When you actually had to wait in line at Smithtixx to get a bracelet.

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_6_of_the_1998_NBA_Finals: In the first half of the game, while the Jazz led 28–24 with just under 10 minutes left in the second quarter, Jazz guard Howard Eisley saved a pass that almost sent the ball out of bounds. As the shot clock was running down, Jazz forward/center Antoine Carr passed the ball a long distance to Shandon Anderson, but the ball flew over Anderson's hands.[4] Eisley caught the ball and hit a 3-pointer, but referee Dick Bavetta ruled that Eisley released the ball after the shot clock expired.[5] Replays showed that the ball had left Eisley's hands with a second left on the shot clock [6] (the NBA did not use instant replay to review calls until 2002).[7] Calling the game for NBC, Bob Costas narrated a replay of Eisley's shot: "See if the ball isn't out of his hand. One second...it's on the way, and they missed the call."[4] Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan opted not to argue the call because it may risk a second technical foul which could lead to ejection. In the second half, Bulls guard Ron Harper made a jump shot as the shot clock went off that tied it at 79; at the NBC play-by-play, Costas announced that Harper released the ball on time, but commentator Isiah Thomas, narrating a replay of Harper's shot, considered it to be "a tough call."[8] At the replay, Costas indicated the call was likely missed and gave context: "If they missed that call, it’s a five-point swing in missed calls on shot-clock situations. They took a Howard Eisley three away, wrongly, in the first half. This one was even closer but it appeared that Harper may have been just a fraction of a second behind the shot clock.” [9] Thomas concluded, "I think that was a shot clock violation."[10]
pjbear05 Posted October 23 Posted October 23 2003 Fiesta Bowl. Miami v Ohio State, for National Championship. Miami flagged late for a non-existent PI in 1st OT, which should have ended game. Instead, game goes to 2nd OT, Suckeyes score, Miami doesn't, and gets robbed. 2nd OT should have never happened.
blackhawkrush Posted October 24 Posted October 24 This is a weekly thing for me, so I'll start with the refs deciding to play the 1974 World Cup semifinal between Poland and West Germany, when everyone knew it was going to be a water polo event.
Nova Carmina Posted October 25 Posted October 25 I guess Wandering Hermit will have some new grist for the mill after last night? 1 1

Yes, although I'd turned the game off before then because I can smell a loss coming and I was sick of watching their putrid effort. But you do not need to be a Minny fan to be outraged. This could happen to anyone's team next. Well, most teams. Some never get shafted. Not naming names. Edited October 25 by Wandering Hermit
