If you haven't seen the recent post, YYNOT is apparently starting to re-track the vocals on their albums.

I've been a huge YYNOT fan since the beginning, and I think those albums are a remarkable body of work. If there are better Rush-adjacent originals out there, I'm not aware of them. When I go to see them live, I love hearing the originals. And over the years I’ve been rolling with the changes, though the loss of Rocky was tough, and it took me a while to get past it. As a long-time fan, the only thing that softened all of the personnel cycling was that of course every one of the musicians is amazing in his/her own right.

Adi is no exception—I've seen her live multiple times and I think that she is truly a wonderfully talented vocalist, as well as a great performer. That said, it would be sad for me to see Rocky being sort of written out of the script. I've always been a music-first listener—I'm all about what the guitar, bass and drums and anything else are doing, and then once I'm in, I work my way around to the vocals and lyrics. Rocky flipped that a bit. After years I suddenly found myself thinking about the quality of vocals and how that works within a piece of music.

If you listen to, say, Rocky's work on Precious Time, I just think there's something going on there that's really special. I'll be a fan from here on out. But it didn't work out, and I can accept that. It would however in my opinion be kind of unusual to effectively paper over those past collaborations, even if that's not the intent. I believe I’ve read that the drums would be (and on some tracks have been) re-tracked. Mike is an incredible drummer, with a beautifully fluid style. But Chris and Joel made some very cool contributions as well.

Apart from my affinity for the music, I also wonder about how redoing tracks would be perceived. If Rush had gone back and re-recorded the first album with Neil, no one could argue about who the better drummer was. But I'm not sure that it would come off well. Some fans might be surprised that Ged and Al had further diminished Rutsey’s role. Though, maybe that’s not a fair comparison. Maybe the entire notion of an "album" is somewhat antiquated, particularly given the state of the music industry today.

Of course I'll always have the original recordings, and, I have zero doubt that Adi and Mike would bring fresh and exciting takes to these projects.

I guess I just cling to the idea that music, like art, is a snapshot in time, and that altering it is something that should be done sparingly.

They probably have very good reasons for doing this.  Maybe legal?   I can't imagine spending the money to do so, for no good reason. Esp for a band with their resources.

We're not talking Sharon Osbourne level of free cash.

Perhaps Tim can fill us in on the details since he's a member of TRF.

From my understanding, Rocky chose to leave to do her own thing. Her other material seems more folky, so not sure if she's really into Rush other than an occupation. Reading more about the situation, her leaving was kind of pissy. So re-recording with Adi is their way to wash their hands of Rocky.

This was Billy and Tim's baby from the start, so another case of 'lead singer big head' syndrome. Adi's very professional and capable so no loss moving on from Rocky. Their recording is 'home brewed', so probably not too expensive to re-do the vocals.

Rocky wanted to do her own thing, but she's in another Rush tribute band. If she wanted to do her own thing, why is still hanging with another bunch of old dudes playing dad rock?

A shame the Rocky split couldn’t be amicable. I really like those albums.

But you have to move on from the drama. Not sure if this is how you do that, but it’ll solve any credit issues down the road.

I own all three of YYNOT’s cd’s. Rocky will always be on those recordings.

I don’t see anything wrong with Billy and Tim doing whatever they want with their music. I do think Billy literally writes everything. It’s his to do with it as he pleases. He has total

creative control.

Rocky’s split from YYNOT was not a smooth split…..but it also did not have much drama. I also think it was a financial issue if I had to take a stab at it. Not a musical thing.

She is doing nothing on her own and doing tons of shows with Mood Lifters who are very good in their own right.

I saw YYNOT with Adi and loved them as much as I did with Rocky. My hope is new material does emerge in the future with Adi on the Vox. She is really powerful. Love her voice. Very different from Rocky’s.

We will always have Rockys run with YYNOT as well as the other two drummers on the CD’s we have.

Billy records all their stuff in his home studio.
