SWEET CHARIOT, SWING LOW, COMING FOR ME

Rush fans don't like the last line of Totem, it comes from a Christian song, and they need Rush to be athiest's.

I am A Thiest.

I've got 12 disciples and a Buddha smile
Garden of Allah, Viking Valhalla
A miracle once in a while
I've got a pantheon of animals in a pagan soul
Vishnu and Gaia, Aztec and Maya
Dance around my totem pole
Totem pole
I believe in what I see, I believe in what I hear
I believe that what I'm feeling changes how the world appears
Hou-ho, ho-ho, ho
Hou-ho, ho-ho, ho-ho
Angels and demons dancing in my head (hou-ho, ho-ho, ho)
Lunatics and monsters underneath my bed (hou-ho, ho-ho, ho-ho)
Media messiahs preying on my fears (hou-ho, ho-ho, ho)
Pop culture prophets playing in my ears (hou-ho, ho-ho, ho-ho)
Hou-ho, ho-ho, ho
Hou-ho, ho-ho, ho-ho
I've got celestial mechanics to synchronize my stars
Seasonal migrations, daily variations
World of the unlikely and bizarre
I've got idols and icons, unspoken holy vows
Thoughts to keep well hidden sacred and forbidden
Free to browse among the holy cows
That's why I believe
I believe in what I see, I believe in what I hear
I believe that what I'm feeling changes how the world appears
Angels and demons dancing in my head (hou-ho, ho-ho, ho)
Lunatics and monsters underneath my bed (hou-ho, ho-ho, ho-ho)

Angels and demons inside of me
Saviors and satans all around me
Angels and demons (and demons) inside of me
All around me
I believe in what I see, I believe in what I hear
I believe that what I'm feeling changes how the world appears
Hou-ho, ho-ho, ho
Hou-ho, ho-ho, ho-ho

Why focus on that line when there are lots of other religions mentioned?

See, Rush fans don't like the last line of Totem.

Why not talk about it . .nervous?

Neil was nervous too, when Earthshine came around with the inspiration for VT -

Slipping through the dark streets
And the echoes and the shadows
Something stirs behind me
And my palms begin to sweat

Nervous about what? Fairy tales?

Is Everything Happening For A Reason a fairy tale?

Or do you subscribe to Something Happen for a Reason?

Oh oh, now you have to think a little deeper . .

Yh, a typical rambunctious ghost.

Most believe everything is happening for a reason . . but don't want to talk about what the reason is.

Rush took it on and produced Vapor Trails.

Good for them.

I don't have a need for Rush to be atheists, but I do have a need for those claiming intellectual/spiritual/emotional superiority to have a firm grasp of the rules of grammar.

I don't know about you, but I've met dozens of Christian Rush fans.

Everyone is so hung up on religion, not religion..... enough already.  Can't we all just get along?  Believe what you want - all good.

At 23:39 John Slop wonders why "Sweet Chariot Swing Low, Coming for Me" is at the end of the song Totem -

But what have other world class intellectuals said about it?

The song is about personal experience influenced by the collective human religious history and deriving morality from that. The host of experiences and spiritual beliefs make up NPs Totem: different stories, through books, thoughts and music. A totem pole is a representation of a community’s history. NP is using a totem as a device to explain what ingredients make up his own personal value system.

Incorporating “sweet chariot” is beautiful - the suggestion is that pop music was initially imbued with religious metaphors, but also, it’s a proto pop song that grapples with the concept of human existence. The connective tissue for Peart is the music. For him the music is not the vehicle to carry a religious message, the music IS the message.

Another scrotumless deflection.

Love it.

World Class intellectuals are all part of Another Lost Generation.

Imagine that . .

Don't pay attention to second hand grace, guys. They just want attention, and to get everyone riled up. Just ignore them and go on with your business on this forum as if they don't even exist.

There you go, drawing my attention again . .

Gotta kill time somehow, right?

Yes, I love to stir up the Truth with Rush fans, yet you need to frame it as stirring up shit.

Well, if you have shit for brains, it's been stirred.

Beautiful response. The music and message both rock.
