Just talken' with Earthshine - First Hand Grace

Second Hand Grace

Earthshine was telling me this afternoon that Rush, although instrumental masters and blessed with lyrical finesse, are nothing more than pied pipers leading the animated corpses that obsequiously fawn after them, to the morgue. Yep, Rush is responsible in part for their fans being part of "Another Lost Generation".

I said to Earthshine, "yup, just rambunctious ghosts all horny for the next illusions and delusions of the day".

Why I was blocked on the Rush X.com site.

How fun, my brain not being a whore pimped-out by the 'Rush Community'.

No looking back to all the mortals decaying in Spiritual Sodom (Luke 17:32).

Are we going to start talking about mind control experiments soon?

Yh . .

Dirk, Lerxt and Pratt were never honest with the Rush Community about the backstory of how Test For Echo and Vapor Trails eventuated, and frankly, i'm happy about it.

I set the wheels in motion
turn up all the machines
activate the programs
and run behind the scene

I set the clouds in motion
turn up light and sound
activate the window
and watch the world go ’round —

Would have been nice if Ged cut me a check for opening the "Window to the World" for him.

Yh, stirring up shit or stirring up the truth.

Having fun either way.

In addition, it gives you something to bitch about.

You in a groove or a rut?

I'm going to make a tray of nachos and go for a walk today. Enjoy.

Peace out.

Mmm, sounds good especially with pepper jack cheese.

I'm waiting for the free dinner at Archangel Michael's Church later this afternoon -

Aight, I’m getting the impression that OP is claiming to have personally inspired major portions of Rush’s music. While that’s not totally impossible, it sounds implausible to me, especially with his… esoteric posting style. @Second Hand Grace would you care to offer some kind of evidence or proof that you ever even met the members of Rush?

Never met Ged Al or Neil, only talked with Pegi Ceconni a few times, their manager. Yh, i was the inspiration behind T4E and VT. Ask me anything about any song on those two two albums.

Okay, follow up question. How do you expect me to believe that you directly inspired any of the band’s music if you only ever met their manager? Also, T4E and VT were separated by a big hiatus and a ton of personal life tragedy for Neil. From every account I’ve ever read, VT’s inspiration came from the events in his life that directly preceded it. Not from conversations with their manager about some third party.

Never met Pegi either, it was all done by phone and fax, August of 1995 for T4E and Jan thru May 2001 for VT.

Let me ask you a couple questions,

1. what did Neil mean he was the "Third Hand Grace".

2. Who was the "gentle hand, a secret touch on the heart"?

Again, I do not feel the need to prove to You anything, i am here for my own amusements.

1. The lyrics of Earthshine refer to the phenomenon of light from the sun bouncing off of the earth and onto the moon, and that light then bouncing off of the moon then back to earth. Light hitting earth from the sun would be considered the prime, then light hitting the moon from the earth would be considered second hand, so light returning to the earth from the moon is third hand. Replace light with grace, grace is often depicted as light in literature as far back as the Bible (no I don’t have any qualms talking about the Bible thanks very much), and you have your answer. The song also gestures towards the idea that the light coming back to earth from the moon would include some version of Peart’s own reflection in it, making that third hand grace his own, even if it’s not a detailed or accurate reflection. By the tone of the lyric, Peart seems to find this phenomenon fascinating and profound, which could betray a deeper meaning he doesn’t outright explain in the song. Perhaps that meaning involves you, and perhaps (more likely) it doesn’t.

2. The lyric gives no indication of who in particular that gentle hand belongs to. If you want to believe it’s you, that’s none of my business. But I don’t see it as very likely considering Peart was a very private person and he never met you.
