True - England was very unlucky to lose to them.  But it was penalties so of course England would lose.  But in the early rounds of the last Euro they were actually fun to watch.  Glad they are out

Yes, but I do hope Spain gets it done this time around. The one thing that worries me is their lack of strikers. Perhaps Yamal will snap out of it and show the expectations about him were not exaggerated.

England 2 Slovakia 1 England avoids penalties. Palmer in the starting XI next time? He should go to the barber shop first.

Spain 4 Georgia 1  A bit of a scare in the beginning for my favorites, but nothing they couldn't handle. Kakabadze can now return to Krakow safe and sound, by not taking a train, I hope.

Portugal 0 Slovenia 0 (pen. 3-0) France vs Ronaldo. Just shoot me now.

Horrible penalty shot call in extra time, was glad that Ronaldo got stoned on the try.  Slovenia had their chance at 1:15 but couldn't cash in.

Good on Slovenia for giving a solid effort.  :notworthy: to the Portuguese keeper

Barely - if Slovakia could have just hung on for a few more minutes they would have ben through and England would have been out.  Given how England has played I will not be shocked if it will be another quarter final exit from a tournoment for them

Pitty - I was hoping for a miracle.  Now we have a quarter (correct me if I am wrong) of Germany vs. Spain.  That will be interesting.  Go Germany!!!!

On the American continent, the US fell to Uruguay 0-1 on a very controversial no-call on what appeared to be a clear offside player.  Even after video review, the goal stood.  I was watching the Latin broadcast in Spanish and they were stunned.

Why wasn't the Latin broadcast in Latin?

Holland 3 Romania 0 Another example of Western European domination in football, but looking at the other scores in the last 16, the gap is perhaps closing...or is it the overworking of players in the west, having to play so many more games in different competitions?

Turkey 2 Austria 1 So much for the dark horse, dark bird more like.

So th Turks got a bit of revenge for the events of 1683?  Ok.  Was sort of hoping for the Austrians in this match.

Perhaps.  But no great shock here.

LOL - True.  But quite the flying save right at the end to prevent OT.  Good match from what I saw (I only saw highlights).

It looked like a hockey game at times, where Austria had a goal chance every thirty seconds. I didn't think Turkey was going to last. Second goal really helped them out. And that save at the end, amazing.
