It would make sense that they would have done SBD recordings of these shows being as there are quite a few "iconic" photos from these gigs. It would also satisfy our disappointment with the "Signals 40" set to get some live material from the era - as long as they don't use the night where "Countdown" wasn't played - that would be annoying in the extreme!!! So...could there be a "Regular" Deluxe set with an RCMH gig which would be 3-CDs, and then the "Super" Deluxe set with Toronto or maybe Largo '84 so that the main GUP tour is represented as a 5-CD set?? Interesting idea, I don't think my wallet would like it though!!!! Forgiveness for SIG40 would be on the table if SBDs from RCMH were released. 3
RushFanForever Posted August 9, 2025 Posted August 9, 2025 I don't want to see 'Distant Early Warning' by the Canadian band FM on the GUP 40th anniversary box set.
Lurkst Posted August 9, 2025 Posted August 9, 2025 Only two months until Power Windows reaches 40. They didn't hang about with releases back then! 1
ytserush Posted August 9, 2025 Posted August 9, 2025 The longer this goes on the more I think that the label didn't do their homework on this band when they bought the catalog. 4

BanterFromTheCosmos Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 (edited) Just wanna say that the P/G Tour CD is still in print, so additional live material (if any exists) kind of needs to be included in order to encourage sales. Merely recycling the soundtrack again would be rather pointless and make for an easy skip. Edited August 13, 2025 by BanterFromTheCosmos

I love Countdown, and the prospect of getting a clean sounding live version was why I was intially so hyped for Signals 40. Not getting anything live at all other than two MP tour cuts was beyond crushing. The unfortunate thing though, is that even if one of the RCMH shows was included on the P/G deluxe, we'd still be missing Chemistry. At least we got vintage performances of The Weapon and New World Man on the original P/G Tour, but it always baffled me that Subdivisions was left off. 1

I know what you mean, but having 6 songs from Signals from more or less the same tour is better than what we have now - if @grep is satisfied with RCMH soundboards, I think they'll well and truly make up for not including live material for the Signals 40th set! You've convinced me these RCMH soundboards exist now - I bet all we'll get is Toronto '84 in full ha ha!!! Hopefully, if this thing is being released sometime in Q4, we should get an announcement within the next month, fingers and toes crossed!!! 1

BanterFromTheCosmos Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 (edited) If the CD release ends up being a digipak, I hope they'll return to using plastic trays like most of the previous deluxes. MP40 took a step back by housing the discs inside slots instead, which made it more difficult to remove them without getting scuffed. Edited August 19, 2025 by BanterFromTheCosmos 1
bscsmkr Posted August 19, 2025 Posted August 19, 2025 I posted this in the DS sub but I am not sure if anyone goes in there much anymore Just thought it was interesting Not sure if soundboards or audience. Just kind of assumed soundboards I don't know if I am reading too much into this or not but there is a person on a Van Halen site vhlinks who purchased and has been posting a lot of 1982 VH soundboard shows on DAD and YT There is a posting where he gives a little background on it and it's just a throwaway line but it stood out to me Read below The following was in the comments on DimeADozen from the people who are releasing these tapes. I thought this was worth sharing: Since these are frequently asked questions, I figured it easiest to copy/paste this in the comments of each new upload. Hopefully it helps these answers get more attention. The large collection of VH tapes that will be coming out over the next handful of months are all from 1982 and 1983, all recorded by VH's 1981-1983 front-of-house sound engineer, Roy. Not every single night was found on tape, though a very large percentage were. Very short remnants were found for a couple shows, which indicates he at least recorded over a small few, and there's no telling if he gave other tapes to the band back then as well. I am aware of nine or ten Fair Warning 1981 tapes that were left in Roy's collection, but they sadly sold to someone else right out of my fingers in August 2024, around the same time we bought out the rest of Roy's VH tapes. Whoever got the 1981 stuff also got away with a small few 1982. The following list are all the tapes I know exist, but were unable to save in time: 1981-05-15 - Providence, Rhode Island [SBD] 1981-06-04/05? - Seattle, Washington [OAM] 1981-06-18 - Fresno, California [OAM] 1981-07-18 - Uniondale, New York [OAM] 1981-07-20/21/22? - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania [SBD] 1981-07-28/29/30? - Largo, Maryland [SBD] (either two tapes or two shows) 1981-10-09 - San Antonio, Texas [OAM] 1981-10-20 - Omaha, Nebraska [OAM] 1981-10-24/25? - Orlando, Florida [???] 1982-07-05 - Zoetrope Studios, San Francisco - Diver Down Pre-Tour Rehearsals [SBD] 1982-10-27 - Montreal, Quebec [SBD] 1982-12-09 - Hollywood, Florida [SBD] 1982-12-10 - Hollywood, Florida [SBD] I handpicked that list of tapes myself from Roy's overall collection as one of the first deals I attempted to make, and was asked to make an offer on them. I offered a very good price, around the price I knew other non-VH SBDs had sold for. Sparing all the details, this was the first of many signs of the shady behavior of this seller. There's a 50/50 chance that the Empress Valley bootleg label are the ones who were tipped off by the seller to sneak the deal for these tapes away from me with higher overall bids. Some months later, EV put out an 8 minute sample of the Providence soundboard as a bonus track on the CD they pressed for the San Diego 1978 soundboard that I originally released in March 2025. ( ) Due to the length and way the Providence sample starts and ends during songs, not being properly cut tracks, it seems to me just like the samples the seller would provide on request, so it's not certain whether EV only had obtained a sample, or if they indeed purchased all these lost tapes. I don't doubt Roy recorded even more 1981, but I think any others left his possession a long time ago, given to the band or whoever else he may have decide to share with. I do not have Van Halen tapes from 1980 or 1984, but there's no telling what may turn up for grabs in the future. I don't have a lead on getting board tapes of any other band/artist that many people are going to get excited over, besides a trove of 1980s Rush (if you're interested in helping fund PLEASE contact me). We already wiped out the other small few tapes here and there that we thought would be of decent interest for people, such as a few ZZ Top, Nazareth, etc.

starscreamsrevenge Posted September 16, 2025 Posted September 16, 2025 No update, just some thoughts (sorry for everyone clicking the thread thinking "Is this it???") So. I checked the Rush.com website to see when the other 40th boxsets were released, and we may have a couple of dates to look out for when to expect GUP. I've done all 6 sets so we also have an idea how long it was between the announcement and the release date: 2112 Announced: November 4th 2016 Released: December 16th 2016 Time Gap: 6 weeks Kings Announced: October 19th 2017 Released: December 1st 2017 Time Gap: 6 weeks Hemispheres Announced: October 5th 2018 Released: November 16th 2018 Time Gap: 6 weeks Permanent Waves Announced: March 26th 2020 Released: May 29th 2020 Time Gap: 9 weeks Moving Pictures Announced: February 11th 2022 Released: April 15th 2022 Time Gap: 9 weeks Signals Announced: March 3rd 2023 Released: April 28th 2023 Time Gap: 8 weeks So, for the winter releases, a 6 week gap was the pattern. So, I guess if we haven't had an announcement by November 11th (let's give them an extra week to be generous), unfortunately I think we'd have to say we're not getting a GUP set, and it may even be curtains for the series as a whole Ironically, from today's date until November 11th is....8 weeks Let's hope October brings us some good news 2

GUP - released 1984, 40th anniversary 2024 (delayed...TWO years? No announcement yet) PW - released 1985, 40th anniversary 2025 (NOPE, not only delayed, but no announcement yet) HYF - released 1987, 40th anniversary 2027 (does anyone really care?) grep Posted September 16, 2025 Posted September 16, 2025 What a trainwreck. Whoever is running this is probably oblivious to the fact that they are losing the interest of one of the most loyal fan-bases in music. 4
BanterFromTheCosmos Posted September 16, 2025 Posted September 16, 2025 (edited) If the target is still 2025, I wouldn't expect a release until December, if only because it's as late in the year as possible and it gives them something to sell in time for the holiday season. It also fits the "end of this year" timeframe Ray Wawrzyniak gave in that Why Music Matters video before the GUP part was deleted. Announcements for Q4 2025 releases do seem to be ramping up a bit, so we'll just have to see what happens (or won't). Edited September 16, 2025 by BanterFromTheCosmos
BanterFromTheCosmos Posted September 16, 2025 Posted September 16, 2025 (edited) What might also help to mitigate delays going forward is to stop making super deluxes entirely. The "bonus items" just drive the price up way too much and it's just more stuff to manufacture. Most people keep the extras inside the box anyway, right? How many of us, exactly, are clamoring for some dice, a toy clamp and egg, tiny binoculars, or whatever else these things get may bloated with? Not a lot, I imagine. Instead, just do individual CD and LP deluxes that both include a blu-ray. Audio and video should always be the main point for these sets. Edited September 16, 2025 by BanterFromTheCosmos 6
