We're almost at the point when we can say RIP print media.

You mean the NYT as legacy/print media? Yeah, it's getting dire.  Or, at least, what an old like me thinks is "dire." I suppose the interwebs users won't miss something they never grew to love. The NYT on-line version will crank on, just outsourcing the sports stuff, I guess.

NYT disbands sports deparment, going with internet provider.  35 or so people affected, but they will be moved about and (allegedly) not laid off.

I clicked the "like" button here, but for bringing it up, not for the development itself. We need an "unlike" button for content that's depressing . . .

We do have an “Unlike” button.  When you decide that you really didn’t like what you orginally liked, you click “Like” again to “Unlike” it.

I suggest four choices:

 Love

Like

Dislike

Hate  :puke:

I forsee this happening to all major newspapers.  As all the old-timer sportswriters are retiring, more and more papers will follow the NYT’s lead.

I really hope that I’m wrong.

When I first started reading this, I thought the 35 affected were the 35 newspaper readers.

They started it about 6 months ago when they added The Athletic as an add-on to your subscription.  Thing is the Athletic isn't doing well either so it may go away too.  Sad story but their sports coverage wasn't so hot, they couldn't even be bothered to cover the Stanley Cup playoffs even with the Rangers in the playoffs.  Wanted to talk about some strange stuff instead like pickleball wars and Brittney Spears getting smacked in the eye by a new recruit for the NBA.
