We've done this before of course, and we did it back in 1986 where I came from as well. It'll never be settled probably, but let's try, let's try and settle it right here, right now, oh God a Van Halen pun. Is that a clue? Yes that's where we're going...

So which album and band is better the David Lee Roth Eat 'Em and Smile band and album or the Van Halen 5150 band and album?

Let's hear about it.

If not for RUSH one could argue that Van Hagar is peak ROCK. Nothing better except maybe Queensrÿche and Dokken. Eat 'Em and Smile is a cheesy DLR cash grab like Crötley Mü.

Oh hell, back in 86 it was all about Dave's lineup. It was the shit, and was being played everywhere.

5150 had a lot of hits, and no dissing Sammy but the album was lame by comparison.

Give it to Dave, his band burned brighter for a little while.

VH on both.

I was very skeptical about VH w/o DLR but man, I saw the 5150 tour ( front row ) and they blew me away.

As Goose said, Live Without A Net shows how tight VH was with Sammy.

Really Wow ! 😮🙃

Listen & Enjoy ! 😎

Blueschica is correct

Eat ‘Em & Smile is great

( I very slightly prefer Van Hagar’s 5150 )

Skyscraper is the better DLR album as

Vai & Sheehan had more of an impact

It's not that I particularly dislike either album ..... just an apathy thing ..... far too many better albums to give my attention to.

Albums I listened to a lot that year (quite a mixed bunch) -

Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time

Boston - Third Stage

Peter Gabriel - So

Georgia Satellites - Georgia Satellites

Steve Winwood - Back In The High Life

The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead

REM - Life's Rich Pageant

Robert Cray Band - Strong Persuader

I played those albums to death back then.

Some Excellent Albums in that list ZH !
👍😎

I was into most of those LPs back in ‘86

and remember that back then I also

played constantly , along with the two albums in this poll,  these then new albums

Toto - Fahrenheit

Journey - Raised on Radio

Europe - The Final Countdown

Saxon - Rock the Nations

It Bites - The Big Lad in the Windmill

Yngwie Malmsteen - Trilogy

… And I was still playing a lot a certain album which was released the previous year

:rush:   - Power Windows 🙂

Big Trouble and Ladies Nite in Buffalo, Yankee Rose and Shyboy deliver what I want from music. Love Walks In, Dreams and Inside do not. Eddie will always be my No 1 but Sammy took away a lot more than he added, whereas Vai and Sheehan were monsters with Dave.
